I'm looking for ideas for a weekend getaway. I'd like it to be within a drive of no more than around 4 hours from NYC. I'd also like something (maybe a town) that would be sort of old fashioned, and very Christmas oriented. Any ideas?

Also looking for resort or hotel with a pool. I just went to Great Wolf, have reservations again, but am really hoping to find something a little different. Does anyone know anything about Bethlehem Penn.?

Sorry Margie, I'm of absolutely no use to you, but I would like to say.......hope you find somewhere nice and have a lovely weekend;)

I don't know Bethlehem, but Kutztown is nice. Small town. Does up the lights for Christmas. And Bethlehem is about 35 - 40 minutes away. But no place with a pool that I know of. It would put you between Allentown and Reading. Reading has all the factory outlets. And they have the bigger hotels, which likely have pools. And, if I remember right, they have the Inn at Reading which is almost like a resort, or was, the last time I was there.

Crystal Cave is near. That is a fun 1 - 2 hours. It is in Kutztown. The Kutztown University would make a nice walk as it is a really nice campus.

I know that Allentown has nice hotels and is just a few minutes away from Bethlehem.

How about coming to the Cape? I think it's around 5 hours driving time.

We have lots of Seasonal Activities, Christmas Strolls, Pops Concerts etc. In December.

I know Cape May New Jersey has their old Victorians all "done up" for the holidays. There are some beautiful hotels there as well. New Hope, PA wouldn't be a bad drive either. Can't recommend any hotels there, though-sorry!
I agree with the Hershey suggestion as well-we love the "Christmas Candylane" celebration at Hershey Park. The Hotel Hershey is pricey but very romantic!

I really enjoyed Woodloch Pines in Hawley, Pa. It's an all inclusive resort where you can do as much as you want or as little as you want. In winter they have ice skating, snow tubing, snow mobiles, and skiing. The food is great, there are night time shows. we just love it. Check out

Lake Placid, NY, is about five hours but worth the drive. It's GORGEOUS for teh holiday's, lots of small town charm and the locals are very nice. I always stay at the Mirror Lake Inn. TammiMcMann stayed at another resort up there a couple months back and liked it--it was kid friendly if that's important to you. The Hilton and the Lake Placid Holiday Inn are both good choices as well--the Holiday Inn is nicer than your average Holiday Inn.

How about MA-I am drawing a blank on the name, but it's the town Norman Rockwell lived in, they have the Norman Rockwell museum there, very cool.
We went one year for a couple of days starting 12/26.
It's in Western MA and only took about 3 hours from Bergen County NJ.
Ahh found it: Stockbridge, MA

Freeport Maine, Kennebunkport Maine. They both do a "Sparkle Weekend" usually the first weekend of December.

My parents always go to Newport, RI for their little weekend getaways. They went just this past weekend and had a great time!! I hear the mansions there are GORGEOUS during the Holiday season!! And it should be only about 3 and a half hours from NYC! :flower:

We also go to Deerfield, MA sometimes. The Yankee Candle Flagship store is there and it's simply AMAZING! (and incredibly Christmasy) The little town of Deerfield is so cute to tour as well, and the Deerfield Inn is a great place to stay. We used to go for weekend trips when I was younger, and it should also be only around 3 1/2 hrs away :goodvibes
