Hey guys. I will be turning 30 on this upcoming trip. My husband & I planned to spend one evening just the two of us since we'll be traveling with extended family. We were thinking of having a nice meal just the two of us to celebrate my birthday while my family takes our son. I already have Monsieur Paul reserved since I thought that would be nice to try for this occasion. However, after reading mixed reviews and realizing that we'll be having an upscale French meal the following week on our DCL cruise (Remy), I'm second guessing. So my question...

Where would you go to make your 30th feel special? Trying to go somewhere new...not the usuals...only willing to repeat a restaurant to have "extra magic" for my 30th. (i.e. coral reef use to do personalized menus & scuba divers...) Willing to dress up if we have to.

Thanks!

(Been on fireworks cruises, wishes dessert party, california grill, ohana, artist point, fultons, hollywood brown derby, coral reef, le cellier, chefs de france, tutto, via nap, be our guest...lots more, but those are more of the popular, go to ones.)

I have not been there yet, but I'm taking DH to Narcoossee's (at the Grand Floridian) for his 30th birthday next month. I've read such great reviews. We can't wait!

Narcoosees. It's calm and the service is perfect. you can go by boat at Magic Kingdom entrance and you arrive near restaurant. The food is wonderfull. They have open kitchen.

I'm celebrating my 30th next month! I chose CRT because I've never been there. If I had to make a second choice, I'd want to do the Spirit of Aloha dinner show.

While I have never been, I think I am going to be celebrating my 40th at Hoop Dee Doo. I have heard nothing but good things, it's somewhere I have always wanted to go, and it just sounds like a lot of fun!

Thanks, guys!

I have been to CRT, Spirit of Aloha, & Hoop Dee Doo. Don't know if I'd have the guts to go to Hoop Dee Doo with them knowing it's my b-day anyway.

I have not been to Narcoosees, so that's an idea.

DH and I are playing with date night ideas since DMIL will watch our girls one night :-) we've been discussing flying fish (chefs counter), ca grill (but we've done it, and kinda want somewhere new), blue zoo, v&a or Monsieur Paul. The latest thought is just doing a tour of EPCOT for drinks/food. We're pretty indecisive. We're willing to splurge but want it to be "worth it" if we do :-)

Remy is amazing! Given you are doing fancy French the next week I'd vote for someting else for you birthday.

How about The Boathouse. We went on opening day and it was amazing! If you like sushi, go to Kimono's - it's fantastic. It's not very "fancy", but the food is outstanding. If Morimoto is open - go there!

Break the mold.

How about Cirque de Soleil?

If you want the best of the best I would go to the Bull and Bear at the Waldorf. If you want to stay on site I highly suggest Citricos.

Not super fancy idea:
I always thought there was something very romantic about the dark indoor setting of the Mexican pavilion, where you can dine next to the boat ride and volcano. I'd wait for a later dinner to ensure maybe more adult diners? If you could beg for a table by the water at San Angel Inn it might be quite romantic. But it depends if you are a fan of that cuisine. Illuminations after?

I must agree with you on the mood of Mexico's indoor dining, but I'm not much of a fan of the food. I've been spoiled by good quality elsewhere ha. Good idea if you can time the ADR to have a meal completed just prior to Illuminations starting.

I would go with Narcoossee's for a special dinner, it is our new favourite.

Thanks, everyone. We're back & forth between Narcoossee's & The Boat House, but we're going to go with Narcoossee's. Thanks!!

AH, DINING ROMANCE . . .
1) We recommend Artist Point or Shula's.
2) Both have great food, and are romantic.
3) Romantic, to us equals
. . . quiet environment
. . . nice appointments, but not gimmicky
. . . few, if any, noisy kids
. . . subdued lighting
. . . good menu
. . . usually good servers (avoid "Thomas" at Shula's)
4) Places to avoid
. . . Cali Grill - much too noisy and usually has lots of bothersome kiddies
. . . Narcoossee's - again, the din prevents normal conversation
. . . Chef Pauls' - very mediocre food and spotty service
. . . Yachtsman - good steaks, but noisy and TERRIBLE plate presentation for the food cost

NOTE: Sure, some people want Cali Grill or Narcoossee's for fireworks, but REALL NOW, is a 12-minute fireworks show worth the remainder of the mealtime issues like noise and rowdy kiddies?

Thanks! We have a reservation at Narcoossee's already, for 5:40 to avoid the fireworks crowd, but we can always cancel it if something better is suggested. We've been to Artist Point, so we'll look into Shula's.
