Help me choose a place to stay!I want to be across the street from DL entrance, myself and 3 daughters.I presently have reservations at the Park Vue Inn but am reading very mixed reviews. I was considering switching to the Del Sol Inn ,Tropicanna or Anaheim Desert Inn. The girls want a nice pool. I want a good nights sleep in a clean safe place.thanks! :confused3

We very much enjoyed the Tropicana. It has a nice pool, in that it was clean, had plenty of towels and chairs and a really oversized hottub. However, its a typical, older motel style square pool. But my kids loved it because it had a deep end. I also liked that the rooms had been recently redone and the staff was great. If pool area is very important, the Howard Johnson's up the street has two nice pool areas, one with some cute spray jets and a kiddie pool as well as hottub. However, location wise its further a walk than the Tropicana (but still doable). The rooms at the Hojo are also bigger but felt very dated (but clean) when we stayed there. I like them both but love the location of the Tropicana better. I don't know about your other two choices, I am sure someone else can help out. Also, go to www.tripadvisor.com for reviews of all the motels around Disneyland.

I would gladly stay at any of your other choices. I've stayed at each one of them and all are just fine. I would never stay at the Park Vue however, purely based on their lousy customer service. They refused to give me a refund for 2 reservations that were cancelled 7 days in advance, I had confirmation emails, yet they still charged me for 2 nights. I had to dispute with my credit card company because Park Vue refused to handle it.

Of your other choices, Tropicana is my favorite.

just to echo our other great posters "nice pool" can mean different things to different people, but these are motel pools.

Hi! My brother has stayed at the tropicana which is directly across from the entrance to DL. He said that they recently refurb'd the rooms and they look great! You can also see the fireworks from the parking lot or if you are lucky enough to get a 2nd floor room in the front of the hotel you could see the fireworks from there too!

Hope this helps!

We just finished a trip last week and stayed at the Anaheim Desert Inn. It's a very basic motel type of layout. They have very basic, no frills rooms. It's an older hotel and I don't think it's been kept up too well. Their service is sub-par and their parking can be a nightmare! They have a pretty decent indoor pool/hot tub. They also offer a 'breakfast' which amounts to toast, a few pastries, orange wedges and orange juice. Really the only plus to the Desert Inn is the location. It's right across the street from DL, next to the Park Vue Inn. If you hit DL like we did - from 8:00am to 11:00pm, then you really only sleep at your hotel, so it's not worth the extra cost for a fancy place. For us it's just a place to park and sleep.

I suggest Howard Johnson. The rooms are a nice size and the service is excellent. If you don't mind riding a shuttle, the Hilton Anaheim is nice. :goodvibes

Definitely stay away from the Park Vue if you are wanting to use the pool. My sister and her family were there in August and the kids and my brother in law used the pool a lot. Two days later all 3 of them were covered in itchy red spots. Doctor said it's swimmer's itch and came from the pool. My sister stayed out of the pool and was fine so it wasn't bed bugs or something else.
Friends stayed at the Anaheim Desert Inn in October and thought it was great. They had a big group of 10 or 12 and lots of kids in the pool. It worked well for them.
As for the Howard Johnson, we were there in december and it was only okay. We weren't thrilled with it. It was only mostly clean with smokers standing smoking in non-smoking doorways. The night manager was wonderful when my little girl was sick and I needed towels and blankets but the housekeeping staff were nasty about the pile of soiled linens outside my door the next day. It's quite a long walk at the end of the day and next time I'll stay at the Desert Inn.

We stayed at the Tropicana a few years ago and very much enjoyed it. We would go back. It was clean and well kept. Everyone was very friendly.

Last trip we stayed at the Carousel next door and its wasnt nearly as nice/the pool sucked. I was wishing we had stayed at the Tropicana instead.
The only plus for the Carousel was we were on the top floor and had a beautiful view of the park at night.

Other trips we have stayed further from the parks and had to make use of the shuttles provided by the hotel. Although they were free, I find them to be a pain in the butt. We felt like we were always rushing the get outside so we didnt miss the shuttle. Then the last shuttle leaves to go back 30 mins after the park closes so we always were trying to push through the crowds to get out so we didnt miss the shuttle.

The PLUS for us being across the street...take our time leaving the park, can go back quickly in the afternoon, and lots of places to eat without having to go far or worry about the shuttle

For us.... from now on we will ALWAYS stay across the street AND of all your choices it would be the Tropicana.

You might concider the Camelot Inn,close and a beautiful view of Mickey Ds from the 4th floor pool area.(Good for watching the fireworks also):thumbsup2
I sound like a broken record.:rolleyes1

I have not stayed at the choices you have listed, but I have stayed at Hojo's and Camelot Inn. I liked them both, but the walk back to Hojo's feels VERY long at night as you're walking by all the other hotels. The pool at Hojo's is a kid favorite for sure.

Camelot Inn was just fine, the pool is very small, but fine for kids.

Is the Anaheim Desert Inn not a good neighbor hotel? I'm not seeing it on the FAQ map? I'm trying to figure out all the hotels on Harbor that are walking distance. Are there any others not on that map? Are there other hotels right there that aren't Good neighbor?

I'm trying to get reservations for mid July and I'm not finding any good prices. Even the PArk Vue Inn is $110 and more a night! Last year I booked for July in December as was able to get Camelot Inn for less than $90 a night. Will I be able to find a good deal for July? If so, when?

Hi-

Have you considered the Candy Cane Inn?? It is a short walk -- 5 mins and they have a free shuttle if you don't care to or are too tired to walk, good continental breakfast, the rooms are clean and comfortable. They have good rates too!

The Candy Cane in looks like an even further walk than Hojo's from the arial view???

We've stayed at the Tropicana and I do like it there. They have a decent pool and rooms are clean. Our hotel of choice lately has been the Carousel Inn and Suites. The pool is on the roof and we have never used it so I cant really comment on that. The rooms are clean though and it's close. Also has a Quiznos right there so that was good for late night munchies after the park for DH.

We have stayed at the Park Vue several times and I have heard bad things about the customer service but we have never had an issue with them. The rooms we stayed in were redone and were nice and clean.

We've also stayed in the Del Sol Inn. The front desk was friendly and locations was as great as others. The room was OK. One place to avoid would be the Anaheim Plaza Hotel. That place was very dirty and the staff was rude to us. Although I did like the room size.

Ditto! We just stayed there over New Year's and it was utterly lovely. The pool was nice although we didn't go in it- too cold out!

We are staying at the Fairfield Inn...any thoughts? Our travel agent said it is the one they book the most outside of the resort.

I have heard that the pool at Candy Cane Inn is small and was wondering if Tropicana's pool is bigger. Anyone know?
