DH and I will be sharing a large suite with my family for the majority of our trip. But on the last day, my family will head home to Northern CA, and it looks like DH and I will stay until the next morning and fly home to DC then.

However, our hotel reservation ends the day before he and I will be leaving, so we'll need to find a new place for the one night. I'd like it to be close to DL (within walking distance would be fabulous), but also have transportation to John Wayne Airport (doesn't have to be free). Oh yeah, and not a million dollars a night. :teeth: Any suggestions?

We are staying at the Carousel Inn in October (never stayed there before), but it has gotten pretty good reviews and it's just across the street from the pedestrian entrance to DL/DCA. The rate we got thru AAA is $60/night. There's also the Candy Cane Inn and Best Western Park Place Inn in walking distance too and both have gotten pretty good reviews.

I would also add to the list the Howard Johnson's on Harbor across from Disneyland. Very nice, older hotel (updated however) with really spacious rooms, lovely grounds and pool areas and a wonderful, helpful staff. You can generally get in there for well under a $100 a night depending on the season. Definitely walking distance although you can also take the ART for $3 each way per person. I would also advise looking into the Sheraton on Harbor. I have seen rates for them on both Expedia and Starwood's site for around $109 a night. I haven't stayed there but it gets good reviews and looks a bit nicer than the HoJo from the pictures. Also had friends who stayed there and raved about it. The Sheraton has a free shuttle to and from Disneyland and also has the famous "Heavenly Beds". There are many, many good places to stay within walking distances. There is a sticky on the top of this board called "Good Neighbor Hotels" or something like that. Mary Jo did this and it has a ton of good info. Good luck!

We loved the Grand Californian...

I'm sure we would too, but like I said, don't want to spend a million dollars.. ;)

Thanks for the suggestions -- the Carousel looks nice, and the price is certainly right! And I've stayed at the Candy Cane before.. that might be nice for sentimental reasons. :)

If you're looking for more economical, try the: Tropicana Inn, Park Inn, Ramada Inn Maingate, Fairfield Inn - all within walking distance.

We stayed at the Park Inn.
-very very close to the maingate
-McDonalds next door
-pool small, but OK, we only used it once, it is the roof, so cool view of DLand
-2 gift shops
-nice staff, good housekeeping, always arranged the stuffed animals on the bed cutely for the kids
-rooms were average size, good for us 4 for 6 nights
-close to other restaurants (Mimis very good)
-cheap
-Free breakfast (juice, coffee, oatmeal, hot chocolate, fruit, cinnamon buns, pastries, cereals, milk, croissants) we always grabbed fruit for later, and they have a bowl of free apples at the front desk
-friendly at front desk
We would stay there again. All you need a room for is to shower and sleep, all the rest of every waking hour is for Disney!! :earboy2:

Ah, someone who understands me! :teeth: My husband calls me the Disney Drill Sargeant - I'm up at the first light, ready to get to the parks, and don't come back til they kick me out! :rotfl:

Thanks for all the suggestions, everyone!

I loved, loved, loved the Hyatt Regency. It's on Harbor but a bit further down, but has a shuttle that runs to disney every 15 minutes. It was a beautiful place and we got an awesome deal of only 40 dollars a night off priceline.com. :cheer2:
