Need hotel help!

Newbie here...been to Disney a few times, but mostly as a kid!

My wife and I received a $100 letter from the Portobello Yacht Club (good for food, drinks, etc.), and need to use it sometime in January. Since we live approximately an hour and a half from Disney, it won't be a problem getting there, but we would like to stay overnight (inexpensively, if possible) so we can enjoy some time in the area.

Can anyone tell me what hotels are in that area--preferably within walking distance? Or, some suggestions of other hotels close by?

Hi Jay and welcome to the DIS.

Since the Portobello Yacht Club is in Downtown Disney, maybe you could try renting points for a stay at SSR, only if you want to do a Sun-Thurs stay. Points become very expensive on the weekends. You can check the DVC point calculator right here on the DIS to find out how many points it would require for you to stay there (I did a quick search and it looks like for a weekday it would be 11 points/ 20 points for Fri. or Sat) . There is also a rent/trade board here on the DIS. I have rented points several times in the past and it has worked out beautifully. The average is $10 per point, but with your trip being so close you might be able to find a good deal.
