Okay, thanks in advance for reading this post! I am recently engaged and I was planning a December 2006 wedding at my church (sorry, no Disney wedding here) :sad1: . I just found out that my church is booked for the whole month of December. A church wedding in my church is VERY important to me. Well, my mom has already spent thousands of dollars on the theme (Winter Wonderland). I DO NOT want to change the theme. The colors are going to be silver, ice blue, and white. Keep in mind, all of this was planned with an early December date in mind. We just found out this afternoon that the closest to that we can have the wedding is November 4th. I am not for the post-Christmas wedding at all.

Okay, now to my question. Do y'all think it would be cheesy to have a Winter Wonderland wedding in early November? I live in Florida so there is a chance it will be 75+ degrees. The wedding will be indoors and so will the reception. Lots of snowflakes and Christmas trees and fake snow. Is this something guests will laugh at? I wanted to serve hot chocolate, egg nog, and sparkling cider. Cheesy or no? Honest opinions please. What would you think if you were a guest at a winter themed wedding in November?

Thank y'all so much! I need unbiased opinions! :wave2:

If I was a guest I wouldn't feel like it was odd at all. November is a late fall month so to have a winter theme wouldn't be too far off! The only thing is, would you feel weird or not right having your winter themed dream wedding in November rather then in December? What is most important is how you feel about your wedding. If you are fine with having it in November then go for it. The guests will love it and have fun no matter what month it is in!

You know what? I think its a BEAUTIFUL idea! It is your wedding, and you seem so passionate about the details about your special day! That is so nice to hear! I do not think that is a cheesy idea. I really don't. I know that I am from the Boston area, and when November rolls around, and am ready for winter and the holiday season! Even though the weather is a TAD different in FLorida :) , and you might have a warm day, your wedding will be indoors and you can create any element of feeling and ambience that you want. Honestly, if you can dream it, then make it come true. The details seem so wonderful :) I wouldn't worry about it being early November. Let's face it, there are some people who have all there holiday shopping done by the end of October! By November, people are looking forward to the holiday season. Your wedding, with all the sparkling snowflakes, brightly lit trees and hot cocoa seem like the perfect way to "kick off" your wedding holiday! I say go for it! And have an absolute ball in doing so! Happy Planning!

I'm from the north east, and to me November is still fall. I think a winter themed wedding would be better in January than in November. If that's not possible, if the wedding was in late November (preferably the weekend after Thanksgiving) I probably wouldn't give the theme a second thought. But if it's early (like the weekend after halloween) I would think it was pretty odd. Congrats on your engagement and good luck picking a date!

Thank y'all so much for the advice! The January is out of the question..... we have been dating for over 4 years and 3 months now and we haven't lived together or any of that so we are both ready to get married! ;) We are just waiting for him to get done with his Master's program (beginning of August) and then he should have a job immediately. *fingers crossed* :goodvibes

:earsgirl: I think it's a wonderful theme and you are transforming the room into a winter wonderland it doesn't matter if it's cold outside or not. Good luck and enjoy your special day! :wizard:

I don't mean to be a party pooper, but 75º seems early to me for winter wonderland (I'm also a Northeaster). But then again, if you're from Florida and not used to snow anyway, I'm sure it would be fine.

Are you only considering Saturdays? If so, maybe a Sunday or Friday would be available in December.

The weekend after Halloween seems a little early for "Winter Wonderland" to me as well--especially if the weather is 75 degrees. If you were looking for early December, I would think early January (one month later) wouldn't make that much difference. It's only a month. January to me is more of a winter wondering icicle kind of month. JMO

I have checked about this. My church won't do any Sunday weddings and Fridays are all taken as well. :sad1: I figured one year in advance would be plenty of time, but it wasn't.

Thats the weird thing about Florida. It could be 30 degrees or it could be 75 degrees. :confused3 Weirdness. The reason (other than we can't wait ;) ) we aren't doing January is because my fiance's entire family (minus parents) all live in Connecticut and they won't be able to come if it's after Christmas. We would have to wait until at least March and neither of us want a March or Spring wedding. :(
We are kind of stuck. I am just so worried about what guests will think of our theme that was already done with a December date in mind that I have forgotten its what I want and it shouldn't matter.
My mom had to hoard all the Christmas stuff to get the huge discounts after Christmas. We couldn't wait to get the stuff until the church ok'ed the date so now it's pretty much November.

:flower3: You just made me feel so happy about my November date. I love what you said!!! SO sweet! Thank you!

can you go to a differnent church maybe??? Is there a rule of only one wedding a day. See if you can book on a day that has a wedding early morning and plan yours for the evening time?? Just a thought !

I think your wedding idea is lovely. It's not like you'll have real snow in Florida if you wait until December! Book your date with your church now, and have fun planning. One idea--if you send out a themed invitation, maybe embossed snowflakes on the stationery--your guests will know what to expect.

I say go for it!! It's your dream. And think about this...I'm from South Alabama, and for most of us in the South, by Nov. we're usually ready for some cooler weather. I mean, look at this week and last...we're hitting 70's and it January!!! (Oh, I'm a meteorologist by the way...lol) So...I'm always giving my viewers cooling thoughts, so a winter themed wedding will get everyone in the spirit of getting ready for winter. I'm always thinking about winter and Christmas right after Halloween anyway. Good luck with your planning!

Guys, just remember the second week of December this year was like 80 degrees and humid. It was insane. It then dropped like 15 degrees in 20 minutes.....gotta love the Florida.

Too bad you can't do January!! Nearly everybody in the wedding planning world gives BIIIGG discounts for January and (non-Valentines) February weddings. Mine was in February, we did the silver and blue winter theme, I got to wear a beautiful hooded cape, and literally saved over $1000 from my vendors.

I say go for it! November 4th is my birthday, you can't go wrong :cool1: .
I don't think it matters. You have a clear vision of what you want you wedding theme to be. I think it would be amazing coming inside to a Winter Wonderland. No one would expect it. You obviously want to be together asap, so go with it. Stick with Nov 4, stick with "winterland" and be happy. It will turn out wonderfully.

Good Luck

At first when I read this, I thought Nov. is too early. BUT after a few seconds I realized, a theme is a theme and its YOUR wedding!

I have many themes that I have thought about - 1930's Hollywood, the Orient, turn of the century Paris. . . but guess what, it's not the 1930's, I am not of Asian decent, and the turn of the century I am talking about is over 100 years ago!
My point is . . .it's YOUR FANTASY! If a Winter Wonderland is your dream ambiance, go for it, I don't care if you were even getting married in July!

Godd Luck and Congrats on your wedding!

Hey! November 4th is my birthday too!

I think Winter Wonderland is cool too...we almost got married in dec. or jan. and I totally would have done that...besides, it's not like you're doing it in july! It's your day, so go for it and have what you want!

good luck! :)
