We have bought a 2nd home at lake of the ozarks (actually bought it almost 2 years ago), and while searching for new insurance for our main home found out that we have been insuring the 2nd illegally......now no one will insure us! We do not have heating and drain the water out at the end of the fall each year - the house is only 500 sq foot........does anyone know an insurance company that would insure the house without heating? We did not know this was an issue-the original insuring company just put heating in the policy, we had never talked about it or even thought about it being a problem. Not sure why they will not insure since the water lines are drained.......help!!!!TIA

My parents have always insured one of their houses without heating and working water.. actually right now they are insuring 2 like that and they've never had any problems. I'll ask them when I see them later today and let you know!

i used to be an insurance agent..
sounds a little weird to me... did they tell you thats the reason they will not insure?
i would think they wouldnt insure it because it was vacant part of the year...
how often are you there? its it a vacation home?

they are telling us because the water lines could bust, but we have explained that we drain the lines.......it is never vacant more than 30 days-it is only 2 hours from our house, so we check on it once a month during the winter months.......during the summer we are there almost every weekend!

when u call other companies make sure you explain to them that situation. if they ask about previous insurance, be truthful. let them know that you had a misunderstanding with the previous insurer.

sounds to me like when the agent wrote the policy they didnt ask the underwriting questions to determine if they could issue the policy. which unfortunally turns out bad for the policy holder.

have you or your husband ever been active duty or reserve?
USAA might be a good place to start .. i no longer work for them but they insure my home and cars.

then i would check with allstate ..

good luck and happy holidays :)

We have a summer bungalow that is the same situation, no heating and disconnect the pipes for the winter. It is insured through allstate with no problems has been for years.
