I've just received my Grandmother's photo books. Yes, the old black and whites. My question is has anyone removed pictues from books like this? I'm looking to find a glue remove that will not damage the photos. Or if you have any suggestions on how to remove the pics without damaging them it would be greatly appreciated. :confused3

Thanks so much.

Are you sure you don't want to just leave them as they are? I'd be careful about putting any type of chemicals on them, I imagine they're pretty delicate (not to mention irreplacable). I was recently looking through an elderly aunt's photo albums and I thought they were kind of cool the way they were. The albums themselves - and handiwork, handwriting and arrangment - only adds to the charm. JMO.

I agree.. Removing them would probably be a very bad idea. Is the book something that can be flattened enough to scan the images?

Scanning and getting 'new' prints would be a much better alternative.

Thanks for the input. I'm just worried about the originals deteriating over the years to come.

Yes, The albums will flatten out enough to be scanned. I'm going to be make three albums for my dad, brother and sister.

Wow, what a great (and generous) idea! Maybe you can find some "old fashioned" styled photo albums somewhere?

Scanning them will give you digital originals to work with, and software can help restore some of the aging thats already happened.

Then you could always make 4 (keep the last for yourself), and store the originals somewhere safe to only take out for special occasions and use the 'new' copy for general display.

Good luck.

Once you get the originals scanned, put them away in a safe place.

There are all kinds of sotware solutions that will help you clean up the scans, fix scratches, and restore the images.

But what will you do with the images once they're scanned? Just print them out and stick them in another album? That's boring! Use the images to create a digital scrapbook; do something creative with them! Made CDs or DVDs that can be played on computer or on TV.

We're living in the digital age. Don't get too hung up on the paper.

I was thinking about the same thing but have never done it myself. I agree, I bet there's something you could do that's really fun. Maybe ask over at the Scrapbooking Board?

Thanks so much. I hadn't planned on doing a digital photo album. I just love the DIS everyone is so helpful and I always get great advise.
