This is my dilema, my son wants to buy some camera equipment (not the camera itself) from e-bay and I have never done anything on e-bay before, although I was thinking of selling stuff after seeing the e-bay thread on the dis). He wants to use my credit card but I have heard some horror stories about people getting ripped off. What do you think and what should I look for to know it's legit. Also do you know of any good internet sites that would sell photo equipment (for movie making). Thanks for any input and suggestions.:wave2:

First you need to check the seller's feedback. Click on the number next to their userid and see how many positive and how many negative they have. Read the comments people leave about how they feel.

Second click on "View Seller's Other Auctions" and see if they sell photo equipment all the time or if this is a one time deal.

Read their auction terms and description of the item. Do they offer refunds? Is there an inspection period? Do they know nothing about this piece of equipment and therefore can guarantee nothing about it?

How are they taking your cc? Through paypal?

I have been a seller/buyer on ebay for several years now. I had only one problem with something I bought, and I knew I was taking a chance buying it because the seller only had 3 or 4 feedbacks, but I bought it anyway. After several stern emails to him about what he advertised vs. what I received, we agreed to a partial refund.

I have done credit card payments through pay pal, and have never had any problems before.

definatly get a free account with Paypal..it really makes things easy and safe. Oh and if you use paypal, make sure the seller accepts it.

I looked on the feedback and it has only 1 feedback from a buyer and it was positive, however where it says "left for others" (whatever that means) it had another 3 positive remarks and it all seems to be some sort of camera equipment. The seller does accept paypal, I have not read about that yet but from reading your comments it sounds like a good thing. Thanks for all your help!! I was clueless!!
