Need help with transfer/UY scenario

Hi everyone, I have a complicated scenario involving the end of my use year, and a transfer from someone whose UY ends before mine.

Objective: I need XX points to complete a reservation that will begin Aug 30 (2 days before the end of my 2008 UY) and continue until Sept 6 (6 days into my 2009 UY).

Friend: Has points to transfer to me. Friend's UY ends June 30 2009(2008 UY). She has points for the next UY (2009 UY), but would prefer to transfer me the points in her 2008 UY.

Question: Can she transfer me the points from her 2008 UY, or will they expire before my reservation and therefore be unusable by me? Since I need to divide her points between my 2008 and 2009 UYs, is this scenario even possible, or am I then banking her days.


Does my question even make sense?

FWIW (If it matters) I am a BWV owner, she is a SSR owner, I am making the reservation at BCV but we are within 7 months.

You have a good point. She is really a DVC novice (more than me) and I didn't pick up on that. WHen I asked her when her points expire she said "June". Could that mean they expire May 31? At any rate, they expire before my trip starts, which is at the very end of my UY.

Ok - if she has a June UY then yes, the points will be expired before your trip. I hope that she at least banked them which needed to be done by Jan 31st, but then they couldn't be transferred. If the transfer had been done by Jan 31st then you could have banked them yourself and used them for the ressie.

If it were a later UY than June where the points could still be banked then you could have received the 2008 points yourself and banked them if necessary if they were set to expire before your trip.

Banked points cannot be transferred but transferred points can be banked.

Short story......you need her 2009 points! Or if she did bank the 2008 points and has enough for 1 of your nights you could have her make a reservation and link it to the remainder that you book - at least I think MS can do that but am not positive.

There have been reports of Ms allowing transferred points to be banked AFTER the banking deadline, which as was noted for May 08 points was Jan 31.

You might try to get on a conference call with your friend and talk with MS. If they tell you that you can bank the points to the May 09 UY (good for reservations from June 09 to May 10), then go ahead and transfer and bank those points on that phone call. Don't transfer and then call back to bank, as a different CM you talk to on the next call may not be willing to bank the transferred points.

FYI, I haven't talked to my friend today, but I was on the phone with MS this morning and was told there IS a July UY. I am now completely confused!

MS confuses me too! There are no Jan, May, July or Nov UY's. Did you speak with your friend and figure out what her UY is?
