I'm a bad cook. I'm like a kid in the kitchen who has no common sense.

My kids had a homemade mac&cheese at my friend's house, and they loved it. So I got the recipe from my friend, and I'm too embarrassed to ask her for the details she left out, because they're probably such common-sense things, and I'm so clueless. :confused3

So here's what she wrote in her email:

It's pretty easy.
A box of noodles cooked.
mix with 1 container cottage cheese, 1 1/2 containers sour cream and 2 cups of shredded cheddar. Add a little garlic salt and pepper and bake until hot and bubbly...

Enjoy!

Okay. Here's my problem:

What temp should the oven be? And "until hot and bubbly" -- how long will that take, approximately? 20 minutes? An hour? I REALLY don't know!

Thanks for any clues!

I usually bake mine at 350 for about 30 minutes. I would just check after 30 minutes to see if is hot and bubbly.

Just guessing (according to how I make my own) but I would say maybe 350 degrees.. (Pre-heat it while you're cooking and draining the noodles..)

20 minutes may or may not produce "hot and bubbly" - but all you have to do is peek in the oven and see if it's "bubbling".. :)

Good luck.. :thumbsup2

Thank you both! And if you're interested, you should try this recipe - it was SO GOOD! She used rigatoni pasta. My picky eaters LOVED it.

It does sound good - quite different from my own.. I think I'll jot down the recipe and put it in my recipe box.. (My adult DD, her DH, and my DGD all LOVE garlic salt, so that's a nice twist..) Thanks for sharing! :goodvibes

Ok,my questions on this are what size containers of cottage cheese and sour cream?

That sounds good! I've never used cottage cheese in my mac n cheese before, I'll think I'll try it.

And good luck with the recipe. Mac n cheese is a great thing to experiment with. You can add so many different things to make it "yours" (smoked cheddar grated on top is my secret).

I was wondering that, too. The 16 oz. tubs seem like an awful lot... but then again, I usually buy my pasta in bags, so not sure how big a "box" of the rigatoni is, either. Does it fill a 9x13 pan maybe?

My DH can't eat such high-fat foods, but it sure sounds yummy, all my favorites in it! Might have to make that the next time he goes out of town for business... :rolleyes1
