Need help with some terminology

Ok, what does it mean to "bump" a thread?

What does it mean to "subscribe" to a thread?

Also, I posted a thread on the theme park strategies board, and now I keep getting e-mails all the time telling me someone has responded to it. Is there a way to stop this? I would prefer to just check it on my own, rather than have my inbox filled with the same message over and over again.

I am very new to the board, and any help will be much appreciated!

Hi - to the DIS!

Bumping means to post to a thread to make the post go up to the top of the list - so it doesn't get burried several pages deep.

Subscribe means to join a thread so you can find it easily (get e-mails when someone posts on that thread if you have your profile set up that way). If you go to the top of the board under User CP you can see your subscribed threads. I have it so I have to click subscribe thread in order to do that or everything you post to will become subscribed.

"Bumping" a thread is when you don't really have anything to post but you type in the word "Bump" just so you can keep that thread on the first page of the message board.

"Subscribing" is when you post to a thread so that you keep getting updates for it and you don't loose track of it. You can do so by either posting to that thread or going into the thread tools at the top of the page and clicking on "subscribe to thread".

I think, notice I said think , you can make adjustments to your settings in your UserCP that allows you to shut off the notices you get in your inbox. I'm not sure how to do it.

Thank you!!! And thanks for the list of abbreviations. I have found one very popular one that is not on the list though, and that is TSM which is Toy Story Mania. Took me a while to figure that one out!

Thanks for the List of Common Abbreviations. I'm sure it will come in very handy as I go through posts. I signed up to the board a few months back but have been more active lately, especially since I booked a trip for October.
