need help with sneaky situation....

Ok, so I know sneakiness is generally frowned upon on this board, but I need an excuse to get out of work a little early. I am a teacher and if I stay until the day is over, I would be cutting it really close to make my flight. I know, I know I should have booked the flight later, but I didn't and that is set in stone, no way to change it. So....help me get out of work to get to Disney!!!
I need to leave 1 period (40 mins) early. I have no kids so I can't use a sick kid excuse, and I am afraid if I say I have a doctor's appt that they will ask for a note. I can't come up with something better than just faking sick and I can't decide on an illness. And no, I can't tell the truth, it will get me nowhere.
Help Please!

I wish I could help more....I'm a teacher, too :confused3 . We all work really well together and no one minds splitting classes the last period if one of needs to leave early. I have a really understanding administrator, so she usually let's us leave if we need to as long as we have a really good reason. That sounds like a good reason to me.

Is there a teacher with last period planning who would be willing to cover your class if you did them some type of future huge favor.

Its might just be me, but I'd be honest. I'd rather be honest than have to beg for forgiveness :worship: if I got caught.

Sorry if that wasn't much help...

Tell your boss you have a rodent problem that requires immediate personal attention.

You don't have to mention that it's Mickey Mouse! :earboy2:

What about a Wife issue??? When my daughter isn't home with us I have used my DH as a good excuse to get out of class early.

To the OP

I have a similiar problem. My DD (3rd grade) only has a 1/2 day at school the day we leave, but I still need to get her out about 30-45 minutes early, to get to the airport. Didn't get our original flight plans.

I'm not sure what to tell her teacher. She has already been great about missing 5 days of school for the trip. I'm afraid I'm pushing my luck. DH says that they prob. won't do much during a half day anyway. :confused3 :confused3

two words: "family event"
:) has always worked for me, no questions asked.

When we have a 1/2 day of school here, the last part of the day (morning) lunch is being served, they eat and then get ready for the buses...maybe that's what they do at your DD school...if so no big deal!

Tell them you had originally booked a flight for later, but the airline called and there has been a change in the flight situation. The flight they booked you on is being re-routed and your departure is a little earlier than you planned. A little white lie. I wouldn't say I'm sick, because, my luck, I would really get sick and that's not good in Disney.

Do you have a pet? Say something is wrong with your pet and you've got to get him/her to the vet.

Lastly, something is wrong with the phone lines at your house and the phone company is coming out to fix it.

Have fun. I leave in 8 days. :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

No advice - I just wanted to say good luck! I'm a teacher too and I booked our Christmas trip flight for 5:30 on the Friday we got out of school - at 3:30. We were not allowed to leave early - no exceptions - so I had my MIL pick up my sister and then me at exactly 3:35 and we had to haul to the airport! We barely made it!

Good luck. Disney really should be an excused absence! How on earth could we possible be effective teachers if we didn't get our Disney-time?

Wouldn't your co-workers know that you're leaving for WDW that day? An illness or family emergency might not be believed. I like the idea of saying that your flight is leaving earlier than expected and you need an hour of coverage.

And WOW - I feel sorry for you working for such a school system! Sounds like a prison!

Mind if I use that line? That's great!

Wow :guilty:

Wouldn't it be better to call in sick for the entire day? or maybe you meant this already.

Do you have personal days?

I know we aren't allowed to take days before or after a holiday for personal days unless there are less than a certain number in the building.

Why is it set in stone? or do you not want to pay to rebook? I don't know how your district would be to let you go if you "violate" your contract. You're the only one that knows that. That's all I would worry about. I know in my mom's school district in Michigan you had to produce a doctor's note if you called in sick the day before or after a holiday...if not, they deducted your pay and it could mean possible termination.

I know how you feel though because I was really sweating our day that we end this year because of snow days until the board decided to make them up before the end of the school year. I was looking at having to possibly rebook all 4 of our tickets and I left a week and a half after we got out of school.

I've got the answer. Tell your boss that you are so nervous about your trip that you've got a bad case of the diar**rhea. I don't think he/she will ask for details, LOL.

Sometimes unreasonable people will try to ruin everyone's fun. Don't let them. Good luck!

OMG! :rotfl: I am totally LMAO right now! That was so funny. The reason is, that would be me! Every time we travel, I end up with "intestinal distress", so that would work out so well! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

My goodness, that was good. Thanks for the laugh. My kids are wonderfing what is wrong with me! :teeth:

I have worked at places (not my current job, thank goodness) where there was just no way you could get out of work early. The only solution was to call in sick for the whole day. Think of it as a mental health day!

Sure, go right ahead! :teeth:

Let me know if it works, okay??!! :rotfl2: :rotfl: :hyper:

Maybe this is only in my state? but I thought that with the new HEPA laws they cannot ask you for a note from a Dr. since that violates Dr. /patient confidentiality. What if you had a disease that you didn't want them to know about? Supposedly they can't even ask for a note saying you saw a Dr. even if it doesn't say why.

If you do call in sick, maybe they can't do anything?? I am not sure though.

(I know my husband thinks that I have a disease when it comes to planning trips to Disney. :earboy2: )

If not, maybe you could have someone sub for you?

Good luck, I hope you make your flight!!!

Also, depending on which airline you use, you may be able to change your flight for a small fee. I know that with Jet BLue and Song you can make changes for 25.00 per person. If the flight is cheaper, they will credit you. If it is equal, they will only charge you the 25 fee, and if it is more, you will have to pay the difference. Maybe that is an option??

there really isn't a way to change the flight without changing it to the next day which would be a huge inconvienience. I am thinking about going with the airline changed the time thing, and I also thinking about saying I feel like i have been coming down with xxxx all week and i need to get to the doctor before i leave. I have kept the fact that I am going kind of quiet. Hardly anyone knows at all, no one knows exactly when we are leaving, and certainly the administration doesn't know i am going. The airlines thing is closest to the truth, and I could tell the vp a few days ahead of time so she doesn't freak out on me the day of.

keep the ideas coming.

I hope it all works out for you. It's too bad they wouldn't just let someone cover your last class. We do that all the time at our school as long as we ask and inform the main office so they know where everyone is if there is an emergency.

Good luck.

One last idea...blow the power in the school so it's called off anyway ;)

Are you sure that you don't work at my school??? Sounds exactly the same. :guilty: Sad.
