I've just been checking the rack rates for our July trip. We'll be staying during value season and we'll need two rooms (there will be 5 of us). A standard room at the Beach Club or the BoardWalk is $289. A 2 bedroom villa (sleeping 8) at BCV or BWV is $545. Can someone explain to me why we wouldn't want to book a villa rather than two standard rooms? Am I missing something?

Disney's website states that both the studios and 1 bedroom villas sleep 4. Can someone describe the layout - I can't find floor plans on their site.

If you check out the DVC part of the fixed info on http://wdwinfo.com you'll find some discriptions and photos of the DVC units. Here's a link for Beach club, you can rummage around from there. http://www.wdwinfo.com/dvc/bcvillas/room.html#rooms

You're not missing anything , the DVC rooms offer reasonable value over two regular rooms but not many people look at them as an option. If you do want to look at DVC units you could save some $$$ by renting points from a DVC member and letting them make the booking. I believe a lot of the "risk" of this venture can be covered by using paypal so it's not just a case of sending someone a cheque and they do a runner. Depending on the number of days you want and if you can avoid weekends you should be able to get the rental for less than $400 a night, maybe as low as $300 depending on the season.

A studio is basically a standard hotel room, at BCV and BW they offer a queen sized bed and a double sized sofabed.

A one bedroom has a large main bedroom with a king size bed, immediately off the bedroom is a jacuzzi, and a sink this leads through to the bathroom which has a walk in shower ( but no bath as it's in the other room). The living room has a sofa bed, there is a full kitchen and a dining area as well as a breakfast bar. You also get a washer/dryer in the room

A 2 bedroom is the studio and one bedroom attatched together, sometimes they are a "lock off" so the adjoining door can be locked from either side and the studio has a seperate entrance.

5 is a really difficult (read costly) number to accomodate, depending on the age breakdown of all concerned, you could consider a two bedroom at OKW it would be cheaper ( both in $$ through CR and renting points) the units are considerably larger and the 2nd bedroom has two queen sized beds in it so it may avoid anyone having to sleep on a sofa bed. .

LOL yeah what he said !!!!!!!!!

Deb those 2 bedrooms are huge - we spent Xmas Day at a friends at BWV and we had 11 sitting in the lounge area of the 1 bedroomed one.

I rented points in December off a friend and it does work out a lot cheaper and good value. Obviously if you do decide to rent DVC points that means that you'll stay as DVC members and you won't get maid service every day.

I would say that the actual kitchen area is just a tad smaller than the kitchen you had in your villa last May.

Hope that helps too :)

Thanks both - that's all really helpful. If we go ahead I think it will need to be either BCV or BWV - the whole idea is to allow the "kids" (elder dd 19, her bf 21 and younger dd 16) to have some freedom. The other option is a monorail resort, but I fancy GF and, whilst it's lovely, I think it's overpriced.

How do I go about renting points from a DVC member?

Hi Deb.

Welcome home to wet and windy Britain!

As you've found out, DVC resorts are very expensive using rack rates. We would never be able to stay any length of time if we had to pay cash!

As Vernon said, renting points is an option. Go to the DVC section of the boards and look at the rental section. You could also try a post on the UK DVC board.

The problem is, July is high season for DVC so the points required are very high. For a 2 bedroom villa it is 40 points per night Sunday to Thursday and 75 points per night Friday & Saturday. This is for BCV and BWV preferred view.
You could get it a little cheaper by going in a standard view room at the BWV and avoiding Friday and Saturday.

The advantage over a villa? Well, they say location is everything.
