Calling all Universal/AAA experts! I was on the AAA website and they quoted me for checking into RPR, standard room, June 26-28, 2008 $243.00 per night, incl. taxes, total $486.00. Total payment required at booking, and minimum $25.00 penalty if cancelled.

What do you think about this rate? Are AAA rates when released likely to be better or worse or about the same? :confused3

I'm not even sure I can stand the cancellation penalties, but I was wondering what you guys thought. Thanks!!! :)

I'm no expert, but I've made a March 2008 reservation and am hoping to lower it with the AAA rate. When I check directly with Loews online, I see a rate of $244 for the first night and $259 for the second for your dates. When I check at the AAA site, I get the exact same prices. Booking with Loews, you don't have any cancellation penalty, and they just charge one night as a deposit. I'd recommend booking directly with Loews and then calling to see if the AAA rate becomes available and then switch.

For what it's worth, my rate in March is $324, so I'd gladly take your $244 or $259! Maybe that will make you feel better about it! I'm hoping to lower it to $259 with the AAA discount. I doubt that I'll keep the room at the $324 price even though we'd really like the 2 days of unlimited FOTL. I think we'd probably pay for 3 days of Express Pass rather than such a high price for one night at the resort. (We have some place to stay, and we'd really just be using the Universal Resort for the FOTL - we may or may not actually sleep there.)

what is in the system now for june 08 are probably the rack rates.

the aaa rates are not out yet for your time period.

book the rooms now, and modify when the rates come out.

i book direct with UO and only pay one night deposit for the room.

Hi mareed! I went to the Universal website and got the same rates as you did. Based on what I've been reading, it seems like the AAA rate will be better than this rate I found today, and without the cancellation penalties. Do you agree?

Wow-$324! That is a lot for just FOTL!

Hi macraven! I'm in the Universal learning curve, and I think I agree with you. Do you have any educated guesses as to what the AAA rates might be? Thanks! :)

I agree...book w/ Universal/Loews directly. The AAA site is showing rack rate since theirs aren't out till early/mid September.

this fall will be my 18th stay at hrh.
have also stayed at the other 2 on site hotels.

i have always used a code or discount for my rooms.

if you call loews and you want to book with AAA, they will transfer you to the UO ressie department. if you book with loews first and do not say you have ap/aaa, they will book the room at rack rates.

i always just book at UO by phone and write down the name of the person, date and time i booked. and always request an email confirmation based on that booking. i always get it and take it with me when i check in.
if you do not get an emaill confirmation within 48 hours, call back and give the name of the tm you talked to. you will get the email at that point.

i book in january for october stays on site. the AAA rate is in the system at that point. the ap rate usually comes out april/may on the website.
in august, i check the website for ap rates as sometimes they drop.
also, check for supersaver rates when they are released on the Loews site.
those deals are listed there first, then on the UO site.

i was able to switch codes as i modified my rates before the uo site listed them. they sell out quickly. the supersaver rates are good if you stay 4 nights at the hotel.

in the past years, the aaa rate has beaten the ap rate for me. might be for the time period i go for it to go that way.

the ap rates seem better in may/june more so than the aaa rates when i last checked them.

book now and modify your rates when the promos, codes come out.

if it were me, i would stick with aaa for the discount because the time period i go has better rates with the aaa.

i have both aaa and ap. use them both in the parks.

if my rate dropped drastically based on the ap discount, i would switch in a heartbeat. i go with the best discount for rooms.

Agree with Macraven, ask for an email confirmation.
I booked for next year , got the email rate said $279 a night.
When i booked they said rate was $244 and $259 fri and sat nights./
So had to call and get the rates adjusted.

we just booked for presidents week through US directly and the person we dealt with was wonderful and explained exactly how to go about getting our discounts when they finally come out. they clearly expect people to call back and get the AAA or APH discount rates...IMHO US/Loews is a great customer friendly company :cloud9:
