Need help with puppy decision..Shih Tzu to be exact

We've been looking for an English bulldog...........not really having to have it just this moment, but looking around to find a good breeder, with an eye to getting one anytime between now and a few years from now, and checking the rescues too, but they all seem to have older dogs with health issues, and none want to send them with kids under 7..............anyway, found a puppy with great markings registered on petfinder, and emailed the people. They emailed back stating "if you're really serious" and telling me to tell them about my family and our nearest airport. I had contacted them because they were in Oklahoma and we could pick up. Anyway, I emailed back telling them all about my family, how the dog would be kept (indoors), who'd be responsible (me), how we expect the kids to behave around the dog, how we crate train and our Boston has a great place to go when needed, and the kids know NEVER EVER to bother him when he's in his crate, how we would definitely neuter and so forth. But I closed with how we'd prefer to pick up than have him shipped, so we could see parents and because we don't relish our new baby being alone in an airplane. Never heard back from them.

There may be lots of legitimate reasons we didn't hear back, but something in my mind just sends up a flag, that it's because I wanted to pick up and they didn't want me to...................................

I just wanted to say CONGRATULATIONS! I just got a shih tzu last month and I am SO in love! She was not the first puppy I tried to get, but the moment I saw her I knew she was the right one. She makes me laugh and smile every day. :cloud9: Much happiness to you! :goodvibes

After much consideration I was able to find a shih tzu closer to home and we picked him up today. He is beautiful white and brindle. Very playful I will post a picture when i get a pic. Thank you everyone for your help.

I'm so glad to hear this! :Pinkbounc Congrats on your new addition!

If you need some Shih Tzu advice in the coming months, there several Shih Tzu mommas around (including me) willing to help out. Mine turns 2 next month and it's been an adventure!

You're very wise =)

English bulldogs that are well bred are hard to find. Their births are very hard and expensive and they don't have large litters. Bulldogs also have huge genetic issues so it's so crucial to find a breeder who is reputable. Have you contacted the AKC breed organization for recommendations? Another great way to find a breeder is at dog shows - those that show often also breed every once in awhile or know the best breeders and you can visit with them and get info from them. Plus check out the best of the breed! Bulldogs that are well bred are expensive BUT if you get a badly bred one with health issues, you'll end up spending thousands and thousands on vet bills.

They are the CUTEST dogs - I hope you find the perfect one!
