My boyfriend, my best friend, her boyfriend, and myself are going to Florida this summer for our senior trip. Three of us have the okay from the parental units, except for my friend's boyfriend. His parents are worried that something inappropriate will happen down there, but other than that, they have no other qualms. Even my parents are letting me go, without worrying (which is extraordinarily weird) - yet his are still on the fence with a "we'll think about it."

The conditions that he can go are that he must find a way to convince them nothing will happen down there. I thought that anyone who would trust their child enough to go 2000 miles would also trust them in this respect, but sometimes trust is weird. Any ideas on how to convince them? Because we're all drawing blank so far.

Thank you in advance!

Have you tried telling them that something "inappropriate" could happen ANYWHERE, and not just in Florida???

I am the mom of a 24 year old daughter, and never had any reservations about letting her go anywhere she wanted, because I did trust her. I feel that all parents need to trust their children 100% until the kids give them a real reason not to. My daughter never had a curfew, was allowed to date when she felt she was ready, was a great student, went away on co-ed trips, had boys spend nights here while still in high school. And you know what? She has grown into a beautiful young woman who I am very proud of. She is a college graduate, a registered pediatric nurse, an EMT and a firefighter. She does not smoke or drink, and has never done drugs. Now I know this can not be the case with everyone, and I am thankful that she is as wonderful as she is. But I also believe that by trusting her from the beginning, we instilled in her a sense of self respect and pride and it made her really think about her decisions.

I hope the parents will reconsider. I wish you the best.

Thank you very much for your speedy response. Yes, we are all those sort of kids, D/D free, well-rounded, mature individuals, who have never given our parents a reason to worry (especially the male in question). Can you tell by the fact that I'm posting on Disboards? I mean, really, do you think someone who spends their days talking about Disney is going to go do something crazy?
...Perhaps you shouldn't answer that, actually, I don't want to know the answer.
