We have decided that it will be more efficient for us to fly instead of drive with 3 kids. I have found roundtrip tickets thru Delta for $174.30 after all fees and taxes but the cheapest I can find a minivan is $594.91 and that's having to use Discover card and it only includes 1000 miles for 8 days. We are staying Oct 9-17 can someone help me find a better rate?

Have you tried Dollar? We got a great deal on a van from them a few years ago. Also, if you have an entertainment book or are a BJs member, you can use their discount codes when booking a rental.

You should also check prices every couple of weeks - rental costs fluctuate and you never know when you can catch a deal. We once rented and SUV for less than the cost of a compact. It all comes down luck and persistence.

Good luck!

The cost of rental cars is extremely high this year. According to articles in the paper and on-line the car companies are reducing the available number of cars they have so that is driving the price up. Guess with the economy this is the way they are trying to save money by reducing their fleet of cars. Good luck with your search. We rented back in March for our Aug. trip and even with the Walmart code and BJ coupon I used then I can't come close to the rate that I got back in March. Keep trying there may be some last minute deals out there.

Try Thrifty. They were hundreds of dollars cheaper for my September minivan rental.

This is so true. I couldn't find anything remotely reasonable for our minivan rental in September for months. Then in June I got really lucky when I was checking the rates again and got a rental for $268.68 through Dollar with a discount code someone posted here that is listed on mousesavers. I keep checking to see if it may drop even more, but rather than drop, the rates went right back up after I found that code (may be even worse, I can't fidn anything for the week we are going for less than $500 so I think I may have got the best price I can get). It's possible they'll drop again though, they really do fluctuate.

Keep trying and I highly recommend checking the codes for all the rental companies on mousesavers. Each year they save a ton of $$$ to so many people!!!

Good luck and have a great trip!!!

$359.62 including taxes and fees for an unlimited mileage minivan from Thrifty.

Florida smart book here:

Just enter your dates and times on the search form.

Thanks I found that yesterday after reading some other threads. I went ahead and booked it because I'm afraid that's as cheap as I'm going to get it and I didn't want to let it slip by!

Thanks for everyones help! I'm really excited to fly instead of drive since I've never flown in an airplane before.
