Is there a trick to threading the machine?

Here's the story - My Mom always was very active with knitting machines, embroidery machines and sewing. In May she had a stroke and her left side is paralyzed. She expressed an interest in going back to quilting so today I cut out some of the pieces. For the life of me, I could not get the Janome machine threaded correctly. Kept showing error messages. I get lost at #5. Mom said "you bring the thread behind the needle and then thread the needle." Tried that and still didn't work. Of course, we cannot find the instruction book (my Brother & SIL moved all her stuff and most of it is in the garage). So I promised I would ask where I'm going wrong so we can get her sewing again.

Can anyone give me simple instructions on what the thread should be hooking onto?

Many, many thanks from someone whose only sewing machine is very, very old but very, very simple to use and who only sews straight seams.

You can get support for the machine at this site. If they can't help you, you can reorder the book.

Did she buy it from a local dealer? Dealers are usually really good about providing help for their machines, so you may be able to go in and get help.

Sorry I can't provide more specific help. My machine is a Viking.

Thanks, Kermit! I sent Janome a message and hopefully will get an answer.

Dealer is not exactly local but I am thinking of picking up one of her friends (who aren't exactly local either). This way they can have a nice visit and she can show me how to work the machine.
