The big things on DD's list are a laptop and cell phone - those have been nixed because she knows those are things that she gets when she is older and we know she will be responsible with.

The only other things I am planning so far are clothes/gift certificate to Justice and a Build A Bear gift certificate. She could care less about toys anymore other than the mentioned stuffed bear.

Can anyone else tell me what is on their kid's list so I can gather some ideas.

:confused3

If you are really standing firm on the laptop and cell phone, why not try another small electronic? A digital camera, a Flip recorder, an iPod, or any other small electronic like that. Plenty of choices in all price points and there are great sales on now.

Although there is a lot to be said for a laptop that doesn't leave the house and is monitored by you. At this age, it is still easy to make rules and see that they are followed - not so easy when you hand a 15 year old a laptop with wireless access or an iTouch or smart phone.

Oh yea 14yodd wants a laptop. She already has her own desktop. We told her she can get her new computer when she gets a job and pays for it, otherwise she gets a laptop from us when she goes away to college like her sister. Since she is a computer geek, I expect her to work at 16 to pay for her gadgets.;)

So far....

14yodd

I got her 5 hoodies, 3 coordinating sweatpants, & 1 jacket from Aerie online on black friday! Great deal.
Jewelry box
UGG boots
XBOX LIVE

19yodd

2 DVD movies
GPS system for her car
UGG boots
(I will probably get her some clothes as well)

My dd9 has a huge list, nothing terribly expensive though. Her main things are:
Kerplunk
Easy bake oven
Dippen Dots Maker
DQ Blizzard Maker
Electronic Bank
Clay
Latch hook rug kit
metal slinky

There's lots more but you get the idea.

She has a birthday coming up in two weeks-don't have enough good ideas for her.

my dd9 has a very unreasonable list as well. That being said, we did get her a laptop for her bday and she has been responsible for it. What about an ipod? We got her for xmas an ipod touch, but a nano would be great if she doesn't have one at all. She also wants spygear stuff, harry potter stuff (the whole book collection), ds games (does your DD have a DS? thats also a good gift if not).

A DS is a good choice if she doesn't have one already. If she likes to read, books are always a great choice. I loved to get books for Christmas, still do haha.

If she likes to do puzzles, a themed puzzle of something she likes would be fun and you could do it with her

The laptop and cellphone are a no go because she was given a Itouch (not the phone one) and she has been less than responsible with it..it's been lost several times and once taken to school when she knows that is a huge no-no.
She has not shown she is responsible enough yet - she know has to check the the Itouch out like a library book.:rotfl: She'll earn it back permanently when she has shown more responsibility with her things.

Plus I have a hard time buying a nine year old a laptop just to go onto icarly.com or something like that. We have a fairly new desktop in the living room so I just can't see spending money on a laptop that really isn't required at this point.

Her grandmother also gave her a DSI last year for Christmas so she has enough gadgets.

I'm looking for more scaled down gifts - this year is going to be a conservative Christmas gift-wise around our household so I need low budget gifts.

There have been some great ideas on here so thanks!
