Need help with golf clubs

My grandson turns 3 on Sunday and he needs "golf course" for his birthday. He means clubs but just doesn't understand that's what he should be saying. I am looking for some decent ones (not plastic is mostly what I mean) but not real expensive. I found a set for $49.99 but the shipping was over $20 on them. I'm not real interested in that kind of pricing. Any ideas?

I think $60 with free shipping is about the cheapest you'll find(Amazon,eBay). Golf clubs are REALLY expensive. Even kid's clubs. Would you be willing to purchase used? Do you have a Play It Again Sports near you?

We don't have one of those. I can get to a Dick's Sporting Goods or Bass Pro in about an hour and a half but that's the it unless I went to something like Hibbitt's. I called them yesterday and they said they don't have anything for golf. I'll look at Ebay and Amazon. Thanks for the suggestions.

Not sure where you are located but in my area you can find lots of quality used sporting equipment on Craigslist as well. There's normally a lot of kids stuff on there that is in good shape because they grow out of it so quickly.

I've played for over two decades and worked in a golf store and when my son is big enough (probably this summer) he will be getting a US Kids set. They are the best you will find for any age of juniors, especially the very little ones - proper length and weight, etc.

Look on any golf retailer website (Edwin Watts, Golfsmith, etc.) and you should be able to piece a set together - driver, iron, putter is all you need for a little guy. At that age they just like to hit things.

You can also get a set that includes those and a bag. Probably run you around $80-100 for the set.

I don't think OP was looking for quality clubs but more so economical clubs. However, I will keep that suggestion in mind for my own kids!

OP may want "economical" but that usually = crap quality. Spend the extra few bucks and get something decent that will last a little while. Replacing cheap crap twice is more expensive than buying something better once.

I concur, however, being as though they didn't want to spend $70 leads me to believe the clubs aren't for an avid child golfer. I think they just want whatever the step up from plastic clubs are. I get what you're saying; I have kids very interested in and passionate about sports. They're 5 & 7 though. They will outgrow it all, granted I will spend a little more for my 7 year for the reason like you said, to last, so he can hand down to little brother. Let's not forget that most clubs for a 3 year old are designed for ages 3-5. Is he really going to wear them out in 2-3 years? I had a set of new, yet not a name brand women's clubs. Paid $150 for them with shipping about 10 years ago. I have used them for about 15 rounds and maybe 30 additional times at the range - they're still in perfect condition albeit getting new, top of the line clubs (only because they were free).

OP is on the budget board, afterall.

Oh, and I birdied my second hole EVER (Par 3 but give a girl a break!) with my "crappy" clubs. Cheap doesn't always mean crappy.

Thank you for the suggestions. I have looked at them a few times and DS26 had a set when he was very small. I wish I still had them! lol. I see two different types on there-Yard Club and Ultra Light. Which would you recommend? I'd rather buy a set if that is best because it would have the bag and he is more likely to keep up with the equipment that way.

Golfsmith has a lynx set. I think it's around $50 for a bag, driver, wedge and iron. Got them for my daughter a couple of years ago to hit out back.

That's the same set I was looking at on the other website with the crazy shipping. I can get it for free shipping even without Prime on there. It's looking pretty good right now. Thanks for the link!
