We are planning a trip to denver over president's day weekend. We were planning to leave Thursday evening and return Monday evening. Four day rental for an SUV is from Alamo is $359 ($89/day).

Just saw that we would save more than $400 in airfare if we left Wednesday evening.

When I priced the car rental for Wednesday through Monday the rate is $799 for the same SUV. With taxes and fee the total is over $1000.

I realized it went from a daily rate to a weekly rate. Is there anything I could do go get it lower? We will be 2 hours away from the airport so a one day rental plus a four day rental will not work for us.

I can't believe that we would have to pay more than double for one additional day--it more than negates the airfare savings.

Usually weekly rentals are less than daily rentals. However, if you are picking up a car on Wednesday and returning it on a Monday, that is not a week rental and you're not getting a weekly rate.

Keep checking. Car rental prices usually drop closer to the rental date. You can make a reservation now and cancel it with no penalty if you find a lower price later.

Any rental 5 days or longer they will price you the weekly rate which seems to be what is happening to you.
