Looking for a decent Chicago area hotel within resonable driving distance into downtown. Downtown looks way over my budget. When I tried to do a search, O'Hare airport area came up, Midway airport area came up, along with Northshore Skokie and Oak Brook. Can anyone help?

I've had excellent results using Priceline.com to find rooms in Chicago and the surrounding neighborhoods. If you aren't particular about the exact hotel, you might give Priceline a try.

well unfortunately the Chicago area hotels are all going to be pretty steep because of the location and time of year. The best deals you'll find will be in the O'Hare area, but that is WAY far away from Downtown. I also don't recommend you drive to downtown. You will save so much frustration and cash if you take public transportation while you're there. Parking is an expensive nightmare.

that being said I suggest you find a hotel on the CTA train line. You might find a good deal at Travelzoo.com or hotels.com
sorry I don't have any specific names for you, but peak season is now!

We got a good rate on a downtown hotel on Priceline, but it wasn't exactly cheap. There are no cheap hotels downtown worth staying in. Driving isn't exactly convenient either. Getting anywhere in Chicago will take you a while. What do you consider reasonable driving distance?

What are your plans while in town? Are you going to spend a lot of time downtown? If yes, then you need to stay downtown. I've also had luck with Priceline ($90/night for the Millenium Knickerbocker). You will not want to drive into downtown everyday. It will be a horrible drive and parking is really expensive (although if you're driving you'll have to pay for parking at the hotel anyway).

ETA: Whatever you do definitely DO NOT stay near Midway Airport.

Valet parking for our hotel (Hard Rock Hotel) was $35/24 hours. I didn't find that too unreasonable considering what parking for a few hours can cost. And walking downtown is kind of fun. :p

I loved the innercontinental hotel in Downtown Chicago when I went years ago.

We stayed at the Hyatt on Wacker downtown for $50 a night on priceline. Of course this was in March, so it was cold, but I think priceline is the best way to go.

Check out the Knickerbocker, my sister got a great rate there last weekend. I would NEVER drive in downtown Chicago. It's a mess. Take the train.

when are you going to Chicago, what are your plans? That will make a difference as to where you stay..

as others have said plan on using public transportation, it is very easy to get around chicago on the L or buses.
