Hello!

This is OT but I was hoping that I might get some help here from all you knowlegable Walt Disney fans out there ;) .

My DD9 came home yesterday all excited that they were doing a book report. I couldn't imagine why she was so excited until she told me who she had picked....well Walt Disney of course (that's my girl!). So her teacher told her it was a wonderful and different idea and noone had ever chosen him before (what IS the matter with these kids :upsidedow ) but that it might be hard since there aren't a lot of books on him. Silly teacher...does she not know who I am and that I frequent the best Disney information site on a daily basis, LOL!

I know a fair bit but certainly not enough to write a good book report (now if it were about the parks in general (WDW or DLR), bring it on!). Do any of you know of any good biographies or books that we might be able to find or check out of the library that gives info on Walt not the parks?

Thanks so much!!!

I do not know which is best but I have had a hard time finding book at teh library with out a waiting list or even at the bookstores they have to be ordered. Good Luck !!

My DH just finished reading "Walt Disney--An American Original" by Bob Thomas. He got it at our local public library. He found it to be fascinating! :goodvibes

Thank you MonorailNate!!!! I will go and check out if any of our libraries have it. My fear was also what princesskimberella said (love the nickname ;) ) that they will all have waiting lists ('cause that's just how my luck runs sometimes). Luckily we do have 5 or 6 libraries in our area that I can look into.

Any other titles/ideas are welcome too!

Thanks again!!!!

I don't know of any for children, but if you are looking for an adult one, the new Neil Gabler one is really good.

You may want to contact Marceline Mo. and get in touch with the lady who owns Walt's home. I think she has written a book and knew him personally. Walt grew up in Marceline!!!!

Last year in fourth grade my son bought at Barnes and Noble this book: Walt Disney: Young Movie Maker (Childhood of Famous Americans Series)
by Marie Hammontree. He loved the book...just devoured it and said it was very good!

I was not sure of the name and did a search and the B&N site and found the book, so it is still available there. Ds did a book report on this book the month they were required to do a biography and he received an A++ from the teacher and ds said that proved that WDW was educational LOL

I knew I could count on the wonderful folks on the almighty DIS boards to help me out! :goodvibes

Thank you for all of your suggestions, they were very helpful!

I am going to go and find the one that PA Princess recommended, sounds exactly like something that would be useful and if your DS used it in 4th grade even more perfect! Also your DS is one smart cookie...I've been trying to convice everyone in my family that think I'm nuts that it IS educational for too many years to count now  . At least my DD agrees with me.

I think I might have to get a couple of others for myself to just learn away!

Wish us luck!

My son chose to do a project on Walt (are we noticing a pattern with our DIS children?) and he used the book Walt Disney: A Biography by Barbara Ford. It was a great book and easy to read. It had alot of nice pictures and great information.

:rotfl: I think you're onto something there! Good thing it's DIS we're into and not something else oh let's say not so positive ;) .

Thank you for the info I will definitely look for that book as well! Sounds like it will be perfect too!

If you are looking for just some basic info, Disney's site has Walt's bio/story on there. Here is the link: http://disney.go.com/vault/read/walt/
Click on the Mickey glove at the bottom to advance to the next page.

There is also a video/dvd version out of the book Walt Disney-An American Original. I bought that at Disney a few years ago.

My DS who is in 4th grade read this book too for a book report last month. He too loved the book. I even read it when he was done with it. It is a great book and very easy to read. My son also got a A+ on his report. He had to do a written report and an oral report. It was educational!!

That is excellent to hear! We are going on the hunt for it tomorrow morning.

Thanks again for everyone's replies!
