Need Help with Birthday Gift!

We're going to a 30th birthday dinner for a friend from college who we see only once or twice a year.

I assume we should bring a present but we're unsure of what to get and how much to spend.....

Any suggestions out there???

Thanks CamColt. I'm considering that.... The only problem is that the party is AT a restaurant (Vinnie Testas). Would a $30 bottle of a nice wine be okay? We just came up with that one?

Does the person enjoy reading? I love to read, so everyone knows that with me, a gift certificate to a bookstore is a safe bet. But, a nice bottle of wine that I generally wouldn't buy for myself would be a nice gift too.
