Need help with beating the ressie system

OK - so here's the confusing story in a nutshell. Sis and I are meeting at WDW July 13-19. Currently have ressies at SSR with AP rate, but I wasn't thrilled with this resort choice. All other deluxes seem to be full the days we are there. Then 2 days ago, CR popped open for 13-18. (Sis is there 14-19 and my family is there 13-18). CR was her favorite when looking at pics, and I haven't stayed at this one yet. Would love to go. Question is, do I book 2 rooms through the 18th at CR hoping to add the 19th later on to her room? I am so afraid that another day will book full during our trip. Just another note, the room comes up as garden view ($309/nt) on WDW, but there seems to be std view available on AAA for $259/nt. I'd rather the cheaper rate. So additional question for this one is, can I reserve 2 rooms on AAA? Will WDW be able to get the rooms next door if I call the reservations desk with the request even though the ressie is through AAA?

Sorry so long - any opinions, recommendations appreciated!

Unwise to mess around with what you have hoping something will free up.

For example, I can tell you a memo went out to all resort staff this week explaining that they are 'boxed' for June 18th to June 21st. This means no walk-ups. No room extensions. No selling of rooms from the front desk. Very nearly maximum capacity at ALL resorts.

If it can happen in June, it can happen in July... and probably will this year. Resort reservations are up. Way up.

Yes you can reserve two rooms on the AAA rate.

If you make the reservation thru AAA then only AAA can modify it or make notes on it. You should have them note on the reservation you want the rooms together.

OR -- since this is room only -- you can book AAA room only reservations directly with the Walt Disney Reservation Center yourself. Hopefully they will show the same availability.

Not a problem. Hope this helps.

Just out of curiosity, was there any difference in the availability on AAA's website vs. Disney's website? Could you pick up the extra day you need there?

The 18th is not available on AAA either. Really weird. I guess I will keep trying for my dates on both websites and cross my fingers. I am just worried that other days will fill up. July seems to be PACKED this year.

Thanks!

If they really want to stay at CR for the trip, maybe it's worth moving to another resort for the last night only (19th).

That's what I would do. Reserve a room somewhere that has a 24-hour cancellation policy. Then when you get to CR on the 13th, ask if there's a room for the 19th.

Not only is June very busy this year (I am not sure if July is that bad), but the CR is a convention resort. It can be packed anytime, even when the other resorts are not busy.

We had the same problem a couple of years ago when DD and I went in June. We were at ASMo and decided due to better airfare prices that we would come out a head by adding a day to the end. The only room available was at ASMu. I called every day including the days we were actually in WDW to see if we could stay at ASMo but, NO, they were booked. It was easy to call and have our luggage moved and a simple bus to the new resort.
