My DD's cell phone just "died". It is not recognizing SIM cards. We live for Disney tomorrow and I'd like her to have a cell phone in case we go our separate ways.

I have Cingular service and my contract is up this December. I may want to switch so I'm not keen on upgrading her phone and getting stuck in another 2 year contract.

Can I buy some sort of cheap cellphone at Target or wherever, slip her SIM card in, and use the current Cingular service?

Yep, just pick up a Go phone and pop it in! Enjoy WDW!

I have been seeing ads on television where you can try Verizon Wireless free for 30 days. Since you have been considering a switch anyway, this might be a good time to try out another cell phone provider. We have had Verizon for years and it works well at Disney World.

My DS had a similar problem. It wouldn't recognize the SIM card, and I brought it down to the Cingular store and within 5 minutes I walked out with a perfectly working new SIM card. If its the phone itself, and you have the insurance, call Cingular, and explain that you leave tomorrow, and your DD needs her cell phone. It might be possible for you to go to the nearest Cingular store and get a new one. Last year, DH had his replacement phone delivered to the hotel since we couldn't make it to the store. It actually broke in transit, and since we were driving, he used my phone and arranged for the new phone to be shipped to the hotel. No extra cost, just the regular amount for the insurance. Good Luck!

The sim card might have come out of place, just open the case and readjust it, i'm sure that will do the trick.

We took it in and out several times. Then I tried putting my SIM card in. It doesn't recognize it.

Anyway, I *forgot* that I do have insurance on the phone so I just called the phone insurer and they are going to ship me out a reconditioned phone:rolleyes: sometime this week. I guess she will be "phoneless" on the trip. Oh well, at least we will have it when we get back and back into our routines.

I too have Cingular and have had problems with my Sim card. The first phone that they sent me didn't read it. So I sent back the ohone and card. The next phone didn't read the new card either. Returned the Sim card for a new one. The next sim card worked. A year and half later the sim card and phone are still ahving issues. Every now and then I ahve to take the crad out, rub my finger against the reading strip on both phone and card, and presto it works again.

Unfortuantely this is just one of many issues that I have with Cingular :sad2: Fewest droped calls my botom, I'd like to make a call....

She's had this phone well over a year and not one problem. It just started out of nowhere today.:confused3 I've had my cell phone for almost 3 years now. It is horribly outdated but it still works.
