My next trip to WDW will be sometime late this year. After I am done with Disney, I plan to get a Taxi and go over and do Universal for a week. We will NOT have a rental car, so I am trying to find which Hotel is Closest to Universal Orlando. I dont want to pay mega bucks for a hotel on site to Universal, but I would prefer one the is right across the street, or "in walking distance" of the front gates of Universal. Preferabley someplace very very very close with a cheap price tag.

Any help would be outstanding! pirate:

for get the days in Universal. BAD BAD:scared:

I used Priceline for my son's impromptu trip to Orlando. I think I bid $42 at 2* level (Feb vacation week) and he got the Day's Inn. I saw his room and it wasn't that bad. He walked to Universal, about a mile. He got the (then) $85 pass for 7 days.

No matter how close your hotel, I doubt you'll be able to walk. US in between 2 VERY busy highways. Play it safe, plan on a cab!

Why on earth would you say that?!?! :confused3

well lets see. we stayed 10 days (through eay click travel) On arrivle night at 12 am we checked in and our blankets were nasty so we asked for new ones. there was old food in our fridge( we had 2 connecting rooms and 2 fridges and 1 worked) I had to call house keeping abot 5 different times to come and claean our room. My daughters Asthmas was out of controll.. I think it was due to the mold all around the doors. My dh had his gold necklace stolen from the room. We had to beg for towels ect.

The pool was nice.

I am far from a picky person. I am nnot the best house keepe at all. But I tell you this was NASTY

Now we had to take cabs from the hotel to universal and we got ripped off 2 x by the drivers. I learned a lesson from that to( whole other story)

oh the hotel our view was a swamp and an old abandon hotel.

Based on the fact that you had to take cabs, it certainly sounds as if you were not staying onsite at any of the 3 Universal deluxe resorts. If you were not staying on property, you certainly can't blame Universal for your lousy hotel or dishonest cab drivers! Even if you did, by chance, stay onsite it is irrelevant to the OP since he already said he is NOT staying onsite.

Really, your hotel stay has absolutely nothing to do with the Theme Parks, so telling the OP to "forget the days in Universal, BAD BAD" makes absolutely no sense! It would be helpful to tell him which hotel gave you such horrible accomodations and lousy service.

I think he/she meant the Days Inn Universal .. not forget the idea of Universal completely.

Thank you tinaluis, you have cleared up the mystery. Now I understand the post. (Although I am sure you can all see why I was confused).

You actually read the post correctly since the poster accidentally left off an 'n'. I thought the same thing until I saw the poster's response with all the complaints about the hotel.

There's a big difference in meaning between:
Days Inn Universal
and
days in universal

We have stayed at the Doubletree by Universal before. It was fine, although we had just gone through a hurricane and the grounds and pool had taken a pretty good hit. It is very close to Universal, but still walking would be quite a hike.

I just got the Sheraton Studio City (3*) on Hotwire for $62/night, including all taxes and fees. I'm planning on using the free trolley to get back and forth to US/IOA or walking (its half a mile away).
