(Formerly Linnettevl forgot password had to reregister again!!! :guilty: )

We we supposed to go to Disney last August and had to reschedule trip after getting sick and because of the hurricanes. I am now in the process of planning this next trip and I have to decide when to go, We have to go to Disney before May(we have another trip paid for June) my problem is when to go, because I hate to take my boys out of school (two weeks) but I see no other way, I am worried that if they miss two weeks of school they will get behind. Have anyone taken their children out for two weeks? do you let the school know that you are going on vacation? Will the teachers give you the school work needed to cover for the weeks that they will be missing?
Thanks in advance for any help!!!

Sometimes you can get the trip excused through schools if you can show that they will have an educational trip. There is a website somewhere with example letters to give the school. I just don't remember where it is...you might could so a search on the disboards for it, because I think that's where I saw it before.

This has been addresssed somewhat before in school excuse letters. Teachers really don't see a family vacation to WDW as educational. It's pure entertainment. How old are your boys? We took ours out when they were in 7th and 9th grades and sent a letter explaining what we were doing and asking for work for them to do. No one thought it was an "educational" trip. But, the fact we had 2 nonrefundable tickets and 2 frequent flyer tickets and reservations 9 months in advance made it unlikely they would flat out say no. Plus my boys were excellent students and it wasn't going to be a problem for them to do their work on their own. We only took them out of school one other time and that was when they were in preschool and kindergarten. No risk of missing much since my almost 6 year old at the time had been reading since he was 4 and was 2 grades ahead in math.

MY boys are 7 and 8 in second and third grade. They are doing excellent in school both are level 4 in advance reading and doing great. My concern is that this year my third grade son will take for the first time the ELA, Math and English test; they will be given at different times, one in Feb the others in April. I now that this trip will not be educational, I will talk with their teachers and see what can we do. One of the teachers I know will give me a little hard time (I let her know of our trip) but the other teacher I know will be ok with this. This Monday my boys will return to school and I will let the school know and work around that. For the parent that have done this before(taken their children out for more than a week) Did you notice if your kids felt a little lost when they got back to school or it was the same? ...THANKS FOR ANY ADVISE!!! :D
