Ok, here is my deal...

Me and my GF are going to Disney world after christmas for the first time. We have both spent time at Disneyland, and I know this will be a perfect place to do it.

I do not want to do a "cookie-cutter" type proposal per se, however, I want something meaningful that we both can enjoy. I have talked to my family about this and many different ideas have arisen. These ideas have ranged from doing the royal table dinner/fireworks to doing a more subtle thing like waiting until she comes off her favorite childhood ride and popping the question then.

Let me know of all suggestions, like mickey, I'm all ears!

How exciting! I think that proposing at Disney is such a wonderful idea!

Anyway, below is a link to a thread that asked the same questions. There are some good suggestions in it.

I posted this on the above thread as well, but have you thought about proposing while on an Illuminations Cruise? Since this will be your first trip to WDW, Illuminations is the evening fireworks/laser show at EPCOT and it's on the lake section of the world showcase. The Illuminations Cruise takes you for a trip around the canals of the YC, BC, BW and Swan/Dolphin and then ends by parking under a bridge near the world showcase lake and lets you watch the show from some of the best seats in the house. I know that on one of the other boards there is a dedicated thread for the Illuminations Cruises that can give you more information if you're interested. We took one of these cruises after our wedding ceremony and LOVED it.

Of course, there are TONS of other places and ways to propose, but I'm sure that no matter what you pick, she'll be THRILLED!

There is a company Gifts of a Lifetime they help plan and stage "events" in the parks. I called them when planning to propose to my DW2B, unfortunately I learned about them too close to our trip and there was insufficient time for them to work anything in for me, so i had to improvise on my own. They were extremely friendly and there have been tons of great reviews by other DISers.

No matter what you decide to do or where you ultimately pop the question, it will be a moment you will never forget....take it from someone who knows :goodvibes Have fun exploring your options and may you find the perfect time/place. Congrats and GOOD LUCK!!

My proposal happened nowhere near WDW, but there is a moral to my story.

My husband, then boyfriend was temporaily stationed in Egypt for six months. Mid tour, he flew me to Egypt. He was able to secure a reasonable rate at an incredible Red Sea Resort in Sharm el Sheikh for three nights. The first night, we hiked down the coral cliffs to the boardwalk in town. Around about sunset as we were walking on the beach he said, there's something I need to talk to you about, then dropped to one knee and pulled out a ring. I started sobbing and all of the sudden we were mobbed by a bunch of Italian tourists waiting for my reply. So how could I say no to that?

Anyway, my point is this. That is the most vivid memory of my entire life. I remember it more vividly than the birth of my child and it is something that nobody can ever take from me. As long as you make it special and well thought out, she will never ever forget. It will be a gift that she can tell her grandchildren about. When my husband tells this story, his friends say "come on man, how can we ever top that?"

As far as WDW, I am not sure of the perfect place, we will only be going for the second time this XMas. But, if you put thought into it and make it special, she will treasure that moment forever. Good luck to you! I hope you get some great pointers here and make a memory to last a lifetime.

Here is a link to my initial write-up of my proposal, the department I used is now closed now (sorry, I updated the site and it crashed recently so I have to fix it up again..., but I do have all of the phone numbers for the Cookie Cutter ones Disney used to have. There were some fun ideas at the comedy clubs ets...

Thank you all so much for your input thus far. I am trying to gain as many ideas as possible so I can choose the perfect one to do. So far I love the illuminations idea and the cruise. That could be a lot of fun. one idea that was brought to my attention had to do with her favorite childhood ride, Alice in Wonderland. The idea would be to have her ride it by herself saying that I would like to get pictures of her on it. Meanwhite I would have alternative plans. When she gets off the ride, I hand her a ceramic mushroomcupping it from the bottom. When she reached for the mushroom, I remind her that, just like in the movie, the mushroom could have an impact on her she is not expecting. As she takes the mushroom, I drop to a knee and let go of the mushroom she is holding, releasing the ring that is attached to it on a string. What do you think?

Cheezy, or good?

Both... It's a proposal, it should be a little cheesy...

Do they still have the Alice in Wonderland ride at WDW? I didn't see it listed on WDW's MK attractions list.

There is the Spinning Teacups. Mad Tea Party in fantasy land I believe.

There used to be an Alice in Wonderland ride but I think that they did away with it awhile back.

You are correct about the spinning tea cups, but I don't think that this is the ride that she was talking about. If it is the ride she liked as a child (and she's doesn't have motion sickness now) it would be a very neat way to propose....

Maybe she is thinking of Snow White's Scary adventure???

If you are thinking of the Alice in Wonderland dark ride, it is at Disneyland, not WDW, and has never been at WDW. Sweet idea though!

OK, the ride that I am planning to use is at DW, however, I don't wanna mention it because if GF was to see that ride, she would know it is me (she knows me too well).

Please continue to post all ideas you may have as I am really liking what I am seeing thus far
