Need help w/ Mt. Rushmore area

There are several new motels on the east side of Rapid City near Ellsworth AFB that are less than 5 years old. Prices are lower than the hotels near Rushmore.

They are situated on the new loop bypass road that stretches from I90 to Rushmore which is about 30 miles or so. This road is faster than going thru downtown Rapid City to Rushmore..

Do a google search on hotels near Ellsworth AFB.

My DD and family just moved to Rapid this past Aug and live on the base. I pass these hotels all the time. They are near a Target, Menards, some chain restaurants.

Rapid City has many options for food. Asian, Mexican, italian. I don't think I've even had a beef meal there yet in a restaurant.

We're planning to go to Mt. Rushmore next summer also, but we're going to stay a little further away in Custer State Park. It isn't the cheapest, but the park looks so beautiful.

Just wanted to be sure you all heard that the 3rd/4th of July Fireworks at Mt. Rushmore have been canceled this year. I didn't know anything about it, but I called today to make our hotel reservations, and I told the woman that I wasn't even going to ask about the 4th of July, and she told me they've had some cancellations because of this. Apparently, there's some beetle causing damage to the trees at Mt. Rushmore, and they're worried about a fire hazard.
