Need help to have Disney understand allergies

OK now I must post a reply. Thanks to all who realize the concerns I have and to those who think I need to redo my life, first of all I have lived with this problem for about 10 years and my life has changed drastically in those years. No longer do I go shopping as a normal person can, I can't shop in many stores due to latex products, and no I DON't
expect them to shut down the store to accomodate me. I just don't go there or avoid all the areas of normal life that I can't tolerate. I am just stating that I was able to enjoy Disney as a pretty normal person, I know what to stay away from and avoid that is latex but by introducing the balloons back into the parks was just going to cause many problems from eating to travel to staying at the hotels. Yes I know to cross the street when need be, ect. I carry all the emergency meds with me at all times including a portable nebulizer. I just felt that the need for latex ballons was not there since they could continue with the mylar balloons , I did not expect that I would be treated as I expected Disney to bow to me and stop the balloons for ME. I was hoping that Disney would see the problems it causes for all latex allergic persons and do away with them to help out the latex allergic persons. I do rent a scooter when we visit and yes it has tires, those tires have been weatherized and the latex particles have become desentized. I don't feel that I need to explain my life to you or that Disney needs to bow to me. Maybe someday you will have a health issue and I hope if you do that people educate themselves before speaking or posting. I
know how to avoid latex and I know how to live my life and I now know not to post anything that people cannot understand unless you live it. Thank you to all who see the issue and have tried to offer help.

As I stated previously, I HAVE a health issue which is aggravated by many environmental allergens which can cause deadly reactions. But I have taken control of my life and my health, and rather than expecting things to change for me, I have figured out how to avoid potential triggers and live a healthy life with minimal disruption to anyone else's life or business.

I gave you more than a few ways to be able to coexist with latex balloons at WDW. You seem to want it your way, period. :sad2:

Any person living with a life threatning allergy recognizes there are controllable and uncontollable exposures. I found nothing wrong with advocating for alternatives to a controllable exposure. I find it very sad that one would feel that substituting mylar for latex balloons would be a MAJOR "disruption to others life and buisness."

She was probably responding to all the people going on these boards and belittling her allergy as if it was a sore throat. Your first post was informative and offered great suggestions, but for some reason you took her latest post to heart when it wasnt directed at anyone. This is what I dislike about the Dis boards, people ask for suggestions and the instigators somehow find their way to it. If your suggestion is meant to fire someone up then dont even post and leave the thread because it serves no purpose.

The problem is that the OP can coexist at WDW with latex belloons, but chooses not to, and instead tries to form a pity party to badger WDW to not sell a product in their park that she can easily avoid.

The way she presents her case makes it obvious that she doesn't want to take the personal responsibility for precautions needed for a coexistance, and instead wants to pass that responsibility off on anyone and everyone else.

If you are so on the "remove all allergens" bandwagon, while you're at it can you write them a letter on my behalf asking for the removal of all Sweet Gum, Shagbark Hickory, Red Mulberry, White Pine, and Eastern Sycamore trees? They could be replaced with Bayberry, Red Maple, White Oak, and White Birch, as I'm not allergic to those.

Ducklite, I think you have a BIG enough mouth to let Disney know of all of your allergies, good luck, enough already. I know how to live my life and do not need you to try and educate me on something you obviously do not understand. Thank you. I am not a malicious or mean person and did not mean to stir up this hornets nest. I will do what I need to do to exist with this allergy and hope you do the same with your allergies.

I would like to thank the op for bringing this problem up. I never thought much about it but I work with latex gloves and now I plan to change that after looking up some info on the web about it. So thank you for making me more aware of it, and I hope that you are able to go to Disney and enjoy it!! :goodvibes

I completely and totally understand airborne allergens and their risk of anaphylaxis. I also understand that there are ways to mitigate exposures if you choose to take those actions--which do require some effort and advance planning.

So you are saying that you don't want any advice on how to co-exist with balloons, but instead want a total ban, even though there are ways to avoid them?

I gave you practical and useful information, and you don't want any part of it. You refuse to even consider the options.

I guess that says it all.

First off I don't quite believe I am reading the same posts as you are. You some how find things that really aren't there. The OP does take precautions on a daily basis in everyday life, not just at WDW, just as I am sure that you do. Where in my post did you see "remove all allergens?"

Also, I wonder if you have ever had an anaphylactic reaction to your enviromental allergens? Just wondering, not saying that you could not but as an ED RN for many years have yet to see this. Not taking away from your allergy but if you have ever had one of these reactions I am sure that you would be slightly more empathetic.

While you're at it, can you ask them to eliminate all shellfish. . .food allergy. And I notice they sell strawberry shortcake someplaces as well. That's a bad one.

Oh, and I'm not fond of beets either, or sweet potatoes. I can really do without turnips as well (some folks call em parsnips, but I call em turnips).

My wife doesn't care for spinach or brussel sprouts. That ought to make a whole lot of kids happy as well. Of course, I haven't seen many of them on any of the menus, but don't want to take any chances.

This moment of levity brought to you by COMMON SENSE. . .FOR CRYIN' OUT LOUD. You . . .sit over here, you. . . take that corner, and you two, don't make me pull this car over. Can we just agree to disagree before this gets any worse?

I have had an anaphylactic reaction when pine nuts were on a table next to mine, so yes, I am fully aware of how serious the problem with airborne allergens can be. I carry an Epi-Pen with me everywhere.

As an RN you will understand what happens to me with the tree pollens... The allergic reaction I have causes a severe asthmatic reaction. My lung capacity drops to 20%. I can't breathe. I can hit 80 (eighty) on a peak flow meter that I would normally blow 425-500 on. That causes a chain reaction within my body, eventually systemically affecting almost every function including various cognitive abilities. The medications needed to recover from this type of reaction cause long term reactions themselves. I continue to have a serious case of tinnitus and some other medical issues which are directly linked to a heavy load of steroids.

So yes, I'm well aware of what the OP deals with. The difference is that I don't let my allergies rule my life, I figure out how to co-exist with them by advance planning.

"So what you're saying is if my family is sitting on the bus back to the resort and a child boards with a balloon, my family should have to get off; or if we are sitting in a restaurant eating and someone comes in with one, we should get up and leave our meals behind"

But you expect vice versa?

CONGRATS ON THE MOST AMUSING THREAD EVER. :Pinkbounc
