Need help - something for Caitlyn

This is from another thread but I wanted to bring it here. I think Robin's posts would be a great thing to save and make into a book for Caitlyn. We've all seen movies where a parent knowing they won't be there for their child leaves a diary or journal so they can know them better. Robin has left so much of herself here, saving it would be great.

I've done a search when I can and have started trying to cut & paste her posts into a document. I'm only saving the date stamp and her words. This way it will be more of a journal and easier to type and format.

Alex has also directed us on another thread to the archives

The project didn't seem too bad until I found that there are a possible 2000+ pages of threads to look at

Any volunteers to start digging through the archive pages??? If you post what pages you've done and either cut & paste any of Robin's posts here or a link that would be great. Maybe take about 10 pages at a time and then check back to see where we are?

Is it possible??? Any suggestions or ideas?? We might discover some treasures there also while we hunt

To make looking a little easier you can do these things.

The archive pages look like this:
Archive Name - Thread Starter - Posts - Forum

If there is only 1 post and Robin is not the thread starter no need to open the thread.

No need to look in these forum (if someone knows she posted in some of these let me know) I'm basing this on no posts on those boards right now.

Thats a good idea Janette. I think if people signed up for whatever pages they wanted to do first. Maybe the wms could put it up top for a few days so people have a chance to sign up and give them a finished by date. That way we won't have a lot of people doing the same pages.

How about just posting that you'll do say page 1-5 on this thread. The next person can just start at 6 to whatever, each person can pick the # of pages they are comfortable with. After finishing the pages edit the post with your page numbers with any posts found or just a message that nothing was found. Sound good??

Some pages could be done pretty quickly like anything that is all technical board or something. Other than that I don't think there is a way to find a certain user's posts without looking at each thread.

Would you still want to go through pages of this thread checking to see if they posted Robins thread. Maybe we could edit our thread to say completed and start another with the posts. That way you might be able to keep track of what you've done easier. Does that make sense to you? I'm no longer sure if it does to me anymore not enough sleep.

It would be just in this thread, once we start the pages would be in order and when they are finished the original post to this thread could be updated by the person doing those pages.

The posts don't have to look great, I'm going to put them into a word document so I'll format them there.

example:

Started Pages 1-2

later edit:

Finished nothing found

or edit and add posts like

To go one step further... I share food with coworkers as well. Pretty much if have a drink out someone will come by and take a big slurp. I have one guy that asks for my doggie bag anytime I go out to lunch... he's better than a big dog at eating scraps.
Oh... in case your wondering - I work at a Fortune 500 company, were just a small group and more like family at this point.

Yes, that's the idea. You can weed some out that wouldn't make any sense out of context - her answering someone's specfic question or something like that but in general anything that tells a bit of information about her. I found some about favorite things etc that would be great tidbits for Caitlyn someday know her mom a little better.

I'd be happy to take pages 1-10....When we were looking for that specific post of hers (about her grandmother), I was going to suggest dividing the archives up to look through them anyway but I didn't know if it was a good idea or not.

Jamsmom, no we look through all the threads on whatever pages of the archives we take and then we copy anything that Robin said that we think will tell Caitlyn a little more about her mother when she's older and paste it on this thread so that Janette can make a Word document out of them (at least that's the idea I get.)

The search in the archive area only works on the thread titles. So there is not a way to search for Robin's posts. There are 2026 pages and the only way to find her posts is to look at every thread. Honeywolf if you'd like to start on 1-10 that would be great. Just come back to your original post and add any posts you find.

If in doubt if a post should be saved save it

Okay Once you say what pages you'll do don't worry about finishing them right away. The pages are just a way to keep track so that everyone isn't doing the same thing. Just do them as you can and let us know when you are finished.

Please let me know if it doesn't work and I will work something out with Alex so you can do this for Caitlyn.
