Hi guys,

I need help setting up a wireless home network. Friend of my give there old windows xp home edtion computer. I want to set -up a wireless network.

Computer one has Windows Ultimate with a built in wireless 802.11 b/g and says capabilities lets you make a home network without running cables

Computer 2 has Windows Home Edtion as t he operating system and do not have built anything.

Have a dsl modem from ATT which is motorola modem. That I got year to ago.

Do I need to buy any thing for the Computer 2 make work with a wireless network.

Sometime this year I will be adding a andriod tablet to the network too.

Thanks in advance

You'll need to get a wireless router to start with and set it up. That will plug into your modem and create the WiFi network that your other devices can connect to. Your computer with built-in WiFi should be able to connect wirelessly as is. Your other computer can connect to the wireless router via Ethernet cable or if you want it to work wirelessly you'll have to get a USB or Ethernet-based WiFi adapter or "bridge."

Yep. The second item will plug into your modem and create the wireless network. The first item will plug into the computer that doesn't have built-in WiFi to allow it to connect to the network.

You probably will need to plug one of the computers into the router with a cable to do some set-up work. There should be a quick start guide and a more detailed manual included in the router documentation.

Dont forget to protect your network. It should have security set ups. This prevents others from using your network which can affect performance, and expose you to other things.

I am all about security. That Next thing set up as soon get the network up and running.

I am sure I got enough computer cables laying around to do with. LOL

I can set up a website from scratch. I should be able to get this up in running in no time.
