Hi everyone!

DH and I have been checking Ryan Air for flights to London and they have some pretty great deals (1.99 euro plus tax one way from Italy) so DH and I are considering a trip to the UK. But I have some questions that I am hoping you all can answer for me.

First of all the airport we would fly into is called London-Stansted, where is this located in comparison to the city itself? I am not at all familiar with the city, and we would want to stay where we can do all the touristy things and would have to rely on public transportation to get to the city and the flights arrive very, very late.

Next question is in regards to hotels and inns, any recommendations? Any specific areas we should stay in or stay away from? We wouldn't want to spend more than 150-170 euros a night, is that doable in London?

And last but not least, what are the touristy things to see and do besides Buckingham Palace and Harrods and to see the Tower Bridge? We would only be going for a long weekend so we would have to fit it into a small schedule and we will be travelling with a 6 year old.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

I forgot to ask about the weather in London in early April or late May.

Thanks.

Hi Tiggerlover!

London Stansted airport is in the County of Essex - think North East of London.

Stansted Airport - but has some annoying pop-ups!

It's about 1 to 1 1/2 hours or so away from Central London - best bet is to catch the train.

There are so many hotels to choose from - it really depends on budget.

Things to do for a weekend? - that's the same as trying to do Disney in a weekend and then some!

Oh - another link London links

Oh the weather - variable at that time of year - pick a season and it'll be it!

You can get the Stansted Express train from the airport into Liverpool Street station, takes about 45 to 50 mins on a good day! from Liverpool Street station you have various tube lines you can catch so your choice of where to stay is fairly extensive. However, if your flight is arriving very late you may need to book an overnight stay at or near the airport as the trains & tubes don't run all night.

For sightseeing on a weekend one of the best ways is to jump on a big double decker sightseeing bus. These take you to various sights on various routes so you can pick the one that best matches the sights you want to see. There are also some where you can hop on and off the bus so you can spend time at the sights. If you get the chance try and do the London Eye.

Weather wise its anyone's guess;) but May tends to be nicer than April.

Hello

You can try some of these links for good deals on London hotels

www.lastminute.com

I generally stay in 4* or 5* hotels or apartments in London and you can get deals for these places at well below the rack rate.

If you stay centrally then you can walk to an aweful lot, jump on the bus etc

If you come up with some areas you like the look of I'd be happy to give an opinion...

Some will come up with better deals a bit nearer the date.

Can only concur on the comments made about the weather :)

Hi there - Stansted is 10 minutes by car from my home - the Stansted Express train service to Liverpool Street is usually very reliable and is right there at the airport to take you into Liverpool Street.
If there is some unexpected problem with the train, they will take you by coach to London.
