my dd is using her cricut for the first time in a loooong time (& we purchased scal several years ago but have only used it once) SCAL is installed on my pc but I cannot find the installation disc and when we plug the cricut into my pc I can't tell what drive it is so I am guessing the cd needs to be in my pc...if so, we are in trouble cause we can't find it. What she is wanting to do is:
She has several cricut cartridges. She was granted a big give for her make a wish trip last year and someone, she's not sure who, made her a minnie gift tag on her gift that had a mirrored image of minnie welded together then folded over to make the base of the gift card. The paper pcing was then done on the front of the gift card. She is trying to figure out how to do the welded mirrored image as a base...can anyone help her with that??? If so, you would be her hero :) If this doesn't make sense please let me know and I will try to reword it :) Thanks sso muchhhhhhh!

you don't need to have the SCAL CD in your computer for it to work.

Can you open the SCAL program?

If you can, try to just place a shape (circle, diamond, square, anything simple) on the virtural mat, and then send that to the C to cut... as a test cut.

And see if you get an error. A few more questions tho... what version of SCAL are you using? Are you on PC or Mac? What version of windows? Those are some helpful info to help troubleshoot.

I am not sure I ever saw which USB port my CE was hooked up to, but I DO remember some one suggesting to try to plug the C into a usb port in the back of the pc/laptop, not a front/side one as that may be hub.

If you wan to discuss the minnie card further once you know that SCAL and your C are working... PM me.

I always use my printer cable & never worried about which drive
does the program open??

We have scal loaded and it works fine. What we can't figure out is how to pull up the base/outline bottom of say Mickey mouse from the dis cartridge and duplicate it then mirror the left side...weld it together so that it makes a card. She then wants to do the paper pcing on the top so that when you see the card the mickey is on top and then it opens for the writing to be on the inside...I guess my first question is can you pull up a cricut cart file in scal?

Not legally... :lmao: But it can be done.

However, if you use Reddy's files (at least the outlines), you can do the same thing.

If you're making a card, you'll need to put a small 'piece' between the two images in order for it to fit together. I line the two pieces up together (on the same Y axis) and then put a rectangle between them, like the screen shot here. So, that way when you fold it, it will meet up.

(The pieces are all welded here, so only the outline cuts).

HTH,

So how to I load the file into scal...can you pm me if you can't post it here? Thank you!

You'd need to 'Import SVG' in SCAL if you use Reddy's files and then copy the image, rotate it and put the rectangle in between the two.

It should be showing up now, not sure what was up with PhotoBucket.

what type of file??
if it is an SVG file then you need to import it into SCAL (file then the 5th thing down)
SCAL files just open

I can't figure out what type to file extention a cricut is...When I look at my drives I don't see the cricut with the cartridge loaded so I can't figure out how to get the file from the cricut into the scal program...

I read this earlier on my phone and just now made it to the computer.

SCAL and cricut carts do not work together... If you can find a SCAL file or a SVG you can import that into SCAL and cut it out.

If you are using a cricut cart you will need Cricut Design Studio or you can use the new Craftroom on their website. But be forewarned it will ask you to update your firmware and then your cricut will no longer work with SCAL..

Can you post a pic of the card and I will see if I can find or make you a SCAL file so that she can cut it?

oh my gosh yes! That would be so kind of you! Let me do some digging...Linds kept everything little thing during her big give and now we just have to find where she "kept" all her cards...lol! Thank you so much....I HATE you can't import the cartridge file into scal...it would have been so cool! Thanks to everyone for their reply...sorry it took me so long to explain what she is trying to make :)
