We're planning our second trip to WDW for January 2015. Our children will be 7 and 5 at the time. We did not visit HS last time, but would like to this time. We went to DTD at night last time and it was so crowded that we didn't get to do but 2 of the things we wanted. We all were kinda toast at that point, so we didn't enjoy it very much. :) I was thinking about visiting DTD in the morning on the next trip, hoping to avoid some of the crowd. We would go to HS after lunch because the kids are already begging to go to T-Rex again. My thought was that I think my kids would really only be interested in the Toy Story ride and the Fantasmic show, so a (long) half day may be enough. Obviously, we would use FP+ for the ride. I've heard the FP horror stories there. Having never been there, I'm not confident in my plan. Thoughts???

If your children are only interested in the Toy Story Mania ride, then your afternoon visit is probably enough.

Inbetween TSMM you could see Muppet Vision 3D, play Honey I Shrunk the Kids, meet some characters, do the Backlot Tour, watch Beauty and Beast Live on Stage or Lights, Motors, Action (although I've heard that might close...)

This is one of our favorite parks and we manage to fill up an entire day here :). For just the afternoon, I would do your T-Rex lunch at 11 and plan on being at HS by 1 or so, so that you can FP+ TSMM and maybe catch some of the other attractions I mentioned.
