Need help picking a week in late fall/winter

We typically go for MLK week and a week in September. This year we want to go when we can see the Christmas decorations and to to the Christmas party. I know to avoid Thanksgiving week as well as right before Christmas, but are there any "best" weeks during that time period?

Go the week before Thanksgiving. Up until the Tuesday before the holiday, the crowds were great. The weather not so much. But we plan on returning in 2015
