Well we are going to Disney in June and I need some help picking a Deluxe Resort. will be 4 of us wife and two boys 13 and 15 we have been few times before and stayed offsite and at Polly and beach club loved both of them. staying at them again is also an option but wanted to get some opinions from the Pros..lol thanks in advance....

I've stayed at all of them except BW and CR. Poly is my favorite deluxe, and AKL comes in at a close 2nd so I highly recommend it if you're wanting to try something new. We've had two amazing stays there and are returning in June!

What do you like in a resort? If proximity to MK is important, GF or CR are hard to beat. If having a monorail glide through your resort interior is important, CR is unmatched.

Given that amenities are pretty much a wash, we go with theming (my favorite is CR for its architecture).

I'd pick by proximity or theme.

AKL is always my first choice but hubby prefers the monorail loop and opts for the Contemporary when it's his turn to pick. ;)

I am no where near a pro but we really loved WL. It uses bus, boat and you can take the boat to CR and take the Monorail. Beautiful theme just awesome.

Having stayed at GF, Poly,WL, CR, BLT. I would say Grand Floridian Pure luxury, .Bay Lake Tower/CR for convenience. Poly for theming and WL for peaceful ambience

Since you’ve done Poly and BC, why not do a split stay?
Half CR for ease at MK, half BW or YC for EP.
That would be a dream!

With 2 teenage boys I would say maybe one of the Epcot Resorts since they are big enough to have a little freedom. I think they would enjoy the night time entertainment at the Boardwalk. I know with my son we stayed at he Boardwalk a few months ago and we allowed our DS his first taste of some freedom there. We let him and his friend stay in the room when we went to the pool, the Boardwalk, and one night for a short time we went to Epcot without them. Also our room overlooked the area where they showed the movie so we would let them go there alone while we sat on the balcony and could see them. With two teenagers I would say they would probably be ok going to the parks alone so would be nice being walking distance to two parks. (Clearly this is a personal choice for all families and depends on the kids maturity levels.)

Board Walk. Two of the 4 WDW parks are a stroll away, there's entertainment on the boards nightly and dining and beverage spots. The aerials of Illuminations are visible from several spots, don't know what will happen when that ends though, you can pop into WS on a whim. We do a surry bike ride each trip.

Boardwalk is our favorite resort, but since you are going in the summer the pool at Beach Club can't be beat. We enjoy the easy transportation (no buses) to two parks, and we usually end up walking over to EPCOT almost every night.

Count me in, I think an Epcot resort is a great idea. They can have some freedom yet not stray too far unless you think walking into Epcot or HS is fair game as well. Whatever you decide have a great time!

AKL is my favorite as it truly feels like a getaway. For some, this is a drawback given the distance from some of the parks, but I like the feeling of getting away from the madness! The pool is stunning (with flamingos nearby), the hotel and grounds luxurious yet homey, and well, giraffes! We also love each of the restaurants on property and the kids' activities are phenomenal.

We stayed at the Beach Club with our two grandsons age 12 and 14 and they loved Storm Along Bay. They made friends at the pool and loved playing volleyball. You could try the Yacht Club if you are looking for something new.

It's tough to say what deluxe resort one should recommend. Like others have said, it depends on if location or theme is important.

  • If it's location to the MK then CR can't be beaten. I also like the GF and in spite of not being on the monorail, my personal favorite of any resort is the WL... I personally am not a big fan of the Poly either.
  • If it's location to Epcot & DHS, then the YC and BC are great, SAB is simply the best pool in WDW. The BW is a nice resort as well, but the pool is nothing like SAB... That and many people don't like the clown slide.
  • IF the kids are still into seeing animals then AKL is impressive. The only thing I don't like is it's out there a bit and the only transportation options are the buses.

With the ages of your boys. I would recommend an Epcot resort. I grew up staying at Beach Club a lot and it was great way to learn to have some freedom that my parents gave me. Like others have said there is plenty to do and with those ages you have the best central location. You can walk to two parks and easy bus transportation to MK or AK.
