Need help on Walkie Talkies

Hi, I am taking our two boys ages 3 and 5 1/2 to WDW at the end of May by myself, and thought walkie talkies might be a good idea in case our older son gets separated from me in the parks. Anyone know of a brand that works well and might be simple enough for a child to use? Thanks for your help.

To be honest with you I don't think there's a radio easy enough for a 5 yr old to use at WDW , I'm saying that because of so many people using 2 way radios and taking all possible channels available not because the child is not capable of using it.
I personally don't think giving him a radio is a good idea , I have done the parks with both of my kids alone ages 3 and 6 and to be honest I never had a problem getting separated because one was in the stroller and the other one would always be infront of me , but we ALWAYS avoided large crowds. Have you considered renting a double stroller and just have them sit down and strapped when the park is very crowded ? One thing I always told my daughter was if she became separated from us to look for a CM and let them know she was lost and she also had her name and the resort we were staying at in her fanny pack.

I agree with Mskanga here. Even with the 14 channel radios, you have to be an expert radio operator to pick out your conversation. They are, however an excellent deal for mom & dad. All brands are pretty much equal with Motorola leading the pack. We bought Audiovox radios and had good luck with those.

Thanks for the reply! I never thought about the problem w/ channels . I am planning on using i.d. tags and the double stroller is a good idea, but how big a child will they accomodate? Our 5 1/2 year old is nearly 75 lbs and 48" tall -- he's a big little guy and don't know if he'd still fit in a WDW stroller. Anyone know? Thanks.

I heard they got newer, bigger strollers at MK, but haven't seen them. The old ones would never work for your older son. However, AK was renting wagons when we were there last Aug.

If you are a DC member, call their toll-free number & try to find out how large the double strollers are. Our DD was 8 when we were there & many times begged us to rent a stroller; however, she wouldn't fit.

So, I'd say go with the idea of using a stroller to keep them together - it should work great & keep him from getting cranky or wandering because he's tired. If he balks, just let him walk 'til he gets tired - just once - should do the trick!

We just got back from MK, the double strollers are pretty good size, we saw lots of them carrying three kids. They are like a wide side-by-side without a divider so some of the kids were sitting with their feet angled across the foot rest area. Lots of good size kids being pushed. If I had younger kids I'd use the double stroller.

We used the radios and we very happy with them but because of the crowded channels I don't think they would work for a young child. Lots of bleed over.

That's good news about the double strollers. He still doesn't have the stamina to walk for long and in such heat, when he doesn't want to walk anymore the world could stop. I'm going to rent one just in case. It might even help to keep a hand on him. I am a little reluctant going for the first time alone with the two of them to the parks. Any suggestions appreciated!
