I am taking my DS on a surprise trip for his 7th birthday( I take all my kids on a surprise trip on their 7th birthday, alone with just me and yet is is always a surprise... LOL!)

We will spend 3-4 days at DL and another couple in LA and then a couple in San Diego. During that time I would really like to take him to a professional sports game. Don't guess I really care what. It will be in mid-November as his birthday is the 11th so I know enough to know Baseball is out.

What would any of you Southern CA reccomend? How hard is it to get tickets, how much do they cost, how far to get the the games etc. We have nothing like this here in Alaska so I really think he would enjoy watching a live game.

TIA

Jennifer

Football
- San Diego Chargers

Basketball:
- Lakers
- Clippers

Hockey
- Anahiem Might Ducks
- Los Angeles Kings

Would be very early season for any of the above. The Lakers and Clippers both play in Los Angeles and would be pretty expensive. Same for the Kings.

The Might Ducks play in Anaheim and when we were there in October seemed to be kicking a lot of discounts around. I believe they have shuttle service from Downtown Disney to the Pond.

Chargers could be interesting, though I find attendance at professional football games to be quite boring compared to television. There is way too much stoppage between plays and television time-outs.

I must add the hockey team of Long Beach Ice Dogs -

They are in the IHL league, but are so much fun and cheaper than going to staples center. They are also half the way -

My daughter (4) loves going to the games - they have a mascot that is constantly around and cheerleaders and are always giving away lots of things inbetween periods -

it really is a lot of fun and I do reccomend going!

The Mighty Ducks games are really fun. They have lots of music and fun contests during the periods. You can usually get half price tickets with a Disneyland ticket stub. (Unless the Ducks are playing the Kings) You can take a shuttle from the ESPN Zone at Downtown Disney. My kids love going to Ducks games.

Mighty Ducks

I personally wouldn't want to deal with the hassle of going to a Lakers/Clippers game. The Staples Center is a hassle and the games cost a fortune.

I think the idea of a Ducks hockey game is a good one. The venue is close to DL and you wouldn't have to go to downtown LA for the game (like for the basketball games). Also if the weather is bad that is not an issue like an outdoor event.

San Diego also has the Gulls which is a minor league hockey team. But I think taking in a hockey game at the Pond would be a fun experience for your ds and since you guys live in AK - I bet hockey is something he could relate to?

I recommend a Mighty Ducks game. You can also get a discount on tickets (10% I think) when you show your DL ticket stub. Details are at Guest Services or I would imagine you can call DL for details. I always see signs for that outside of DL.

We have a minor league baseball and hockey teams here, so I would rather do something "Big League" adn this sounds like it is. The Ducks sound like a lot of fun and easy to get to. The Chargers sound fun also as we don't have ANY football here (well high school, but its over about the time school starts). Where do the Chargers play and are they really expensive?

Thanks for all the great responses!
