I need some help with this and don't know where else to go. I know there are a lot of military members on the DIS so maybe you could help.

I work for a very small defense contracting company and we have been trying very hard to find an ex-USN member with loads of shipboard experience for one of our vacancies. I have been working with several internet 'military hiring' type sites to no avail.

We did happen to come across someone who used to work in this area but had to leave to care for his ailing mother. He now wants to come back, so we hired him. Well, apparently he's had a change of heart and no longer wants to return to this area. So, we are out of luck again on this position.

My boss has turned this back to me again and I just don't know where else to look. There must be a way to find people retiring from the USN who have spent a lot of time working on ships.

Any ideas?

have you considered advertising in areas where bases were closed? i live near vallejo california and there were lots of displaced civilian employees with the type of experience you mention due to the closure of mare island navel shipyard.

i'm sure you could contact area newspapers in regions that have undergone similar closures and reap good applicants.

You could also try advertising in the Hampton Roads area...lots of sailors around here!

Why not also check with local VFW halls...someone may know someone who knows someone...good luck :thumbsup2

Thanks! We've been trying to connect with people at Norfolk and that area. Most have been somewhat hesitant to relocate to the DC area. Can't say that I blame them.
