We just got 3 nights at HHI at the end of August. woohoo so excited. So now I need some information since we have never stayed there before. Okay here we go. Where do you rent bikes from? Can you also rent beach chairs? What are some good resturants? What kind of activities r there for the kids? Is there anything I need to know? Thanks.

You can rent bikes right at the resort. For a 3 night stay, I'd just get them there.

Beach chairs may be rented from the Beach Patrol attendants right at the beach.

There are several nice dining options at Shelter Cove - walkable from the resort. Kingfisher, Scott's Fishmarket, Bistro 17, Little Venice, Parrot Cove, San Miguel's and Ocean Grille. HH has about 300 restaurants and there are many just a short drive from the resort. We enjoy Red Fish, EAT!, Alexanders, Old Fort Pub, Crane's Tavern, Catch 22, Dye's Gullah Fixins, Giuseppi's, Big Bamboo and many others. Guests at the resort will get a discount at several.

The resort has a wonderful recreation staff with LOTS of programs for all ages. You will get a complete schedule at arrival. It's not usually necessary to reserve those in advance of arrival.

Have a great stay! :)

Just relax!!! HHI is a gem, you will have a great time. We added on there in 2002 and again in 2010 just for 11 month window for summer. We usually go in June early July, so be prepared for hot and humid in Aug( we did this one summer). You can rent bikes at the resort and beach chairs at the beach. There are 2 pools, one at the resort has the slide, and one at the beach house...beach house is across the main road from the resort..we usually drive there but you can take the shuttle from the resort or bike there (1.5 miles I think). Go to HHIdining.com for many of the restaurant menus..there are a milllion great ones there!! Our favorites include Old Oyster Factory, Sea Shack, Guisseppis(near the resort) for pizza and such, Scott's(right at shelter cove a quick walk from resort), Frankie Bones for yummy steak and lobster mac & cheese...too many to list. I'm sure others will give there favs. There are usually fireworks and entertainment at Shelter cove on Tuesday nights(don't know if you are staying til then). There are activities all day at the resort..so check the schedule at check-in and call for ones you want to attend that need reservations..lots of choices for adults and kids. We love the marsh tour, campfires, tye-dye t-shirt making, other crafts. Take-out at the pool is fine as is the one at the beach house for sunning days, but we often make our lunches and make breakfast in our villa and sit out on the porch(we have seen dolphins from our room in building 29). If you are in the main lodge, there is underground parking, otherwise its outdoors. We were there June 9-12 and are going back next July..have fun. go to Harbor Town and climb the lighthouse and shop and have dinner(you will have to pay to enter sea pines resort). Shop the outlets one night .... This is our relaxing vacation....we do wdw xmas week each year and don't fell anywhere near as refreshed as after our HHI vacation..even after all these years and trips!!

If you call the resort you can ask that activities schedule be faxed to you; if I remember correctly it's available on Thursdays for upcoming week which begins of Sunday.

:goodvibes

My kids LOVE HHI Resort. There are a multitude of kids activities scheduled and led by Castmembers, some with and some without adults needing to be there. My kids favorite is the campfire! They also loved doing the tyedyed tshirts, and everything that has a cost is very reasonable.

If you have little ones, check out Shannon Tanner in Shelter Cove weeknights at 6:30 and 8pm in the summer. He is an entertainer and the kids love him. He gets them dancing, lets them sing in the microphone, does songs with actions, gets the grown ups involved with the kids...it is so fun. My two girls who are now 5 and 7 have loved him since the oldest was 20 months old. We go every summer. This year we did his dolphin cruise (thurs mornings, leaves from Shelter Cove at around 8am I think) and it was great. Saw lots of dolphins, chased away pirates, Shannon took all the kids downstairs on the boat and did magic tricks and sang songs and told stories...it was HOT, but the girls had a blast.

You can find him on facebook---just search Shannon Tanner. He's great.

My favorite not to miss restaurants...

Skillets in Coligny plaza for breakfast
Signe's on Arrow road and Stu's Surf Shop in Coligny Plaza for lunch
Old Oyster Factory, Scot's Fishmarket, Big Bamboo Cafe, Waterfront Cafe for dinner.
Hilton Head Ice Cream, the Cupcake place in Coligny plaza, or Signe's Key Lime bread pudding for dessert :)
