I'm new here, but i heard there are some mighty helpful folks on this board. My 16 year old daughter is going to be playing basketball July 11-17 at wide world of sports. She's staying the whole time with the team off-site. We will have our 20 year old daughter with us, and so the three of us (mom, dad, 20 year old) will be mostly on our own, doing things without our 16 year old. Funny thing is, we dont know how long they'll actually be playing past the 14th. (Might get eliminated, you see.) Nor do we know how much time we'll have to do disney stuff. So we plan to stay in a less expensive place off-property for the first 3 days to size things up. So here are my questions, and if you can help with any of them, please weigh in:

(1)If we stay on site later on, we want to stay where it is relatively quiet. Which resorts have more adults/fewer children? We like Port orleans, French Q. Is that a good one?

(2)Could we wait till the day before we want to check in to reserve a room or is that risky?

(3)We will have a car. Is it easy to get from place to place in disney world by car and park at the parks? (except for mk. i know from bitter experience that it is not advisable to take a car to mk)

Thanks a whole lot.

the AK bus is closer than the AK parking lot - so I would suggest a bus for AK.

for both Studios and Epcot definitely drive your car.

POFQ is nice - but my favorite for the budget minded in Pop Century. Yes there are children here - but it can definitely save you money. there are also a lot of singles and couples here - probably more than at the other value resorts.

you probably need a reservation at any WDW resort this summer. However if you don't mind paying full price (which most people here would never do) then you might be okay.

or you can go to the resort itself and see what they tell you. If they want to charge you the full price then go call CRO on the phone and see what prices they give you. If this is still to expensive and you don't mind a drive. Then the Disney Travel store in Ocala might be a good bet. However call them first and make sure they will be open and have some deals for you. This is a good hour to hour and half drive. You don't want to get there and be told - sorry we can't help you.

i'm really ignorant. how do you avoid paying full price, and what does cro stand for?

central reservation org or office not certain

they are the people who make the reservations for Disney - when you call 1-407-w-disney

or 1-800-828-0228

sometimes there are codes for the general public - either goto mousesavers or the board here (at the top of this one).

if you are member of AAA -they have a discount.

sometimes Disney send out postcards - to people who have stayed before but haven't stayed in a while - or to people who have never stayed (yes this happen don't understand how or why - but it has been recorded here)

I got a postcard so my rate for CBR is $88 a night vs - the $166 - which is the normal rate (both include tax).
