Ok, so I need some advice.

Right now I have a trip booked May 9th to 26th at AKL Jambo house for a deluxe studio standard view.

We have decided to do a 3 night cruise right in the middle from the 16th to 19th.

Now, Long story short, if possible I would like to get those 3 nights points back.

The first MS rep I have spoken to says the only way to do it is modify down and rebook the first half, or the opposite and do with with the 2nd half. Now Im sure if I do this I will lose it to a waitlist.

If I speak to a manager is there any way I can do this without losing my res as I already have the nights booked. They should be able to assure me I keep my dates but I undersand the system might not be setup for that.

Anyone have any stories about a similar incident?

Thanks all,

I would check availability, on both the front end dates & the back end dates. As one of them will be a re book. If one of them is available to book on points NOW, that is the part to cancel & rebook. If it is available for members to book now, there is no wait list to lose out to.

Sent from my iPad using DISBoards App, please excuse any typos or autocorrects!

Ya, I did that already. There is 1 day missing on each end. Im just wondering if there is a "back ended" way that a Manager might be able to help me out if I speak up a bit.

I just don't think there is a way to drop days from the middle of a reservation, as there would still need to be a new reservation number created in the system for either your first half or last half of your stay. If there is only one day missing, how about booking what you can and waitlisting that day? Or, how about completely splitting the stay, staying the first or second half at a different resort or room type, if there is availability?

What they are telling you is correct. If you want to remove dates in the middle of a reservation you can do so only by canceling one entire end of the reservation. Right now May 10 is full for Jambo standard view on the front end of that trip and night of May 25 on the tail end if you were to remove May 16-19. Thus you cannot make the change without wait listing one night. If you choose to cancel and waitlist, the likely choice would be to keep the tail end of the trip and cancel and rebook the front end and waitlist May 10 because May 25 is part of Memorial Day weekend and less likely to come through.

Note another option is to cancel the front end of the trip through the night of the 18th and rebook for a standard view at Kidani for May 9 to 16 since those nights are open right now at Kidani.

Ya, Thats the thought. Im not willing to risk a waitlist and my wife is not willing to not stay at Jambo.

Its not a huge deal, I can just keep the room while we are gone. I was going to try and be nice and give 3 nights to a friend of mine while we are gone. Im thinking now I will just let him use the room while we are away. The outcome is basically the same but just means we spend less time as a group.

Waitlists are not automatically filled, it's a manual transaction and there is no way to know when or if it will happen while you are making a reservation.

It's possible, I've done it several times. As noted, your chances of success are very high even with a cancelation and rebook of the portion in question.

So Dean, when you say you have done this several times so you mean you have just canceled and rebooked? or got a manager to take care of it for you?

Im still on the fence on what I might do.

I've dropped days in the middle and split a single reservation, the latter being my more common approach. I simply told them what I wanted and let MS take care of the details. It was my impression they didn't cancel and rebook as one was a CL reservation. There have been some IT and system changes since my last time. I'd just call and tell them what you need, if they say cancel and rebook, I'd at least speak to a supervisor before you proceed.

Cool, I will give it a shot if I decide to do it. Thanks for the help.

Also, since you have to move anyway and won't be keeping the same room, you can find an available studio at KV or a different resort for the entire part of stay that is missing a night...

Even if the points may be higher, you will have the extra points from the days you are dropping to work with. Try out a higher point resort, if necessary.

Good luck.

Ya, I know I can do the last half at KV if need be. We just really like Jambo better.

The things I do to save friends money. :rotfl:
