We are involved in an ongoing property dispute and had to hire a lawyer. We aren't scheduled to go to court until this late Fall. (Our neighbor decided that he owned more property than what the filed survey says and strung one strand of barb wire across a portion of our wooded property - taking about 3 acres of our land)

Anyway, due to this situation, we can not go to Disney this Fall. We are all disappointed (my husband, myself and our 11 yr old son). So my husband decided he wants to have a end of summer family fun day (similar to those field days you used to have at school). He has given me the task of deciding on games, food and decorations.

Since money is tight right now, I'm needing some creative and budget friendly ways to decorate and design games for 3 people. This is what I have so far:
August is the month we will have our day

Games:
4 wheeler obstacle course (we have 20 acres)
water gun fight
water balloon volleyball
glow stick hide n seek (night game)
badmitton
water trampoline (water just sprays over trampoline)

Food:
Grilled burgers n corn
Homemade Ice Cream
Oreo Pudding Poke Cake

Decorations:
?????

They are wanting this day to last all day. I just don't know how to stretch this out. My husband and I both work nights - so I was thinking sleep late and start our day sometime after lunch when it won't be so hot (lower Alabama living).

Also, if anybody has suggestions for a fun name for this day, please give suggestions on it as well.

I would hit Dollar Tree for Decor - they have Hula theme stuff right now
I"m not sure how or what you are wanting to Decorate maybe a pic would help us think better

The first thing I thought is - it might be more fun with more families. Then you could have some family against family competitions and a potluck meal. Tug of war and sack races come to mind followed up with an evening of Disney movies outside and a marshmallow roast.

Banners, those triangle mulitcolor ones. I'm not sure how expensive the plastic ones are but you could make them out of construction paper and twine.

I found this the other day on Pinterest, it looks so cute and you could probably find pool noodles at the Dollar store or Walmart.

Sorry to hear about your neighbor. We had to reclaim our acreage too, our neighbor has been haying it for a few years but they've been doing weird things on their property lately so we've taken ours back over so they don't try to take it. Next summer we are putting up a split rail fence too.

I know it's hard when you have a lot of acreage but you might have to put up fence posts and barb wire of your own.
Good luck!
And post pictures of your games!!

We are in the process of putting up fence posts and barb wire including a woven wire field fence. We were already putting up fence when we discovered what he had done. The field was suppose to have livestock in it by October but we have been advised not to touch the wire he strung until after the court hearing/ruling. So its a big waiting game - this all started in December 2011.

But on a good note - this is what we have decided on for our Family Fun Day:

We will wake up to a special breakfast
Have a video game competition to see whose the best video gamer (my son should win hands down). We will play 3 games to declare the winner.....Fortune Street, Mario Baseball and Tron
After 2:00 (should have cooled off some) head outside for games:
Slime Fight
Water Gun Shoot-out (similiar to OK Corral)
Glow Stick Hide n Seek (after it gets dark)
Horseshoes
Corn Hole
Marble Competition (my son loves to play marbles)
Bucket Sponge Race
Water Balloon Toss
Ice Cube Race
Bubblegum Pie Contest
Badmitton (My son and I on one team against the highly competitive dad, who doesn't need a teammate)
BB Gun Shooting Range (who can shoot the most targets)
Balloon Darts (similiar to a County Fair game)

Late Lunch/Dinner
Grilled Hamburgers on Sourdough
Grilled Asparagus
Potato Salad
Oreo Poke Cake
Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream

The day should cost around $100 total. This covers the three of us and two grandparents who will watch and enjoy the day with us.

Someone mentioned using Christmas lights and luminaries with battery candles once it gets dark. Since most of this will be outside, I'm planning on using some tropical decorations from the local Party America and Dollar Tree and just decorate one end of the barn.

My son is very excited and his grandparents are even planning on joining in on the extra messy games (which I think is going to be hiliarious, to see my parents coated in whipped cream and slime)

Thank you to everyone who offered us suggestions.
