We are leaving Thursday and have been checking the water temp in CC. I was wondering if anyone had been latley and could tell me if it is to cold to snorkel. I do not wnat to lug the snorkeling gear with me if I do not need to.

Thanks

I'm glad that I bought us shortie wetsuits...but brrrrrrr I still think it will be chilly for me. My DSs won't care!

We were there on 1/22/05 and the weather was beautiful but I found the water to be a little chilly! I made it in to about my waist but we had to fight with the two kids to get out (they swam for about 3-4 hours). I think it all depends on you as I am sort of a wimp when it comes to cold water. Have a great time, we did!

We were there last week. The water was cold and we had 30MPH winds. My wife did snorkel but she was very, very, upset. The under water Mickey is no longer there and has been removed. He was damaged in the hurricane. She only saw 2 fish a several Jelly Fish. The water gets warmer the further you go out. She snorkled the entire lagoon and about froze to death coming back in due to the change in water temp.

We were there on the 1/13 Wonder. I agree with the other posters. The water was a little chilly to the DH and I. It almost seemed as though it was colder over at Serenity Bay. We snorkeled and were able to stand it. I think once you get in and get submerged that it's okay...you just have to get used to it. I guess it all just depends on how sesitive you are! Good luck... hope that the weather is nice for you!

Thanks for updates. I will take the snorkel gear then. It is hard to judge from here when we are freezing.

We were on the 1/15 Magic and despite two attempts we couldn't dock at CC due to weather and so missed it entirely... hope you have better luck!

We were just there Saturday! The water was chilly. We made it out past the 20,000 leagues sub(which was roped off) but my 7yo DS was shivering and we had to take him back in. It was fine for me once I got in but I have a nice thick layer of fat to protect me! :teeth: I did see lots of people in the snorkeling lagoon all day though- adults and kids! Have a wonderful cruise!

Sorry! I did not mean to post that twice!

accuweather.com is where I check the water temp. Look under the marine tab

I'm used to pretty cold water and I thought the water at CC was too cold for swimming on the 1/16 Wonder. It's been pretty cool there for the past 2 weeks which won't help your cause. I'd skip it (swimming I mean) and pick another activity. Have fun!

Will they allow you to bring your own snorkeling gear and go out where the snorkeling area is roped off??? Would they still make you just rent the vest, I thought I had heard that no matter what, they make you wear the vests?

I think that they do make you wear the vest at the snorkeling area, but you can use your own snorkel gear. I have a custom mask with my prescription ground in to the lenses, so I wear that and just rent flippers. Frankly, the vest isn't that bad - you can inflate it and be lazy! Or deflate it totally and go down as much as you want.

Does anyone know if the mailbox is still down there? I'm thinking of putting a letter in a ziplock in it and seeing if it ever gets sent... :-)

I have to admit (a little smugly, perhaps) that since I'm from New England, where it hasn't gotten above freezing for days, and it's been near or below zero each night... AND where the ocean temp doesn't hit 60 degrees on a WARM day in the summer... I'm bringing my bathing suit and snorkel mask. If it's above 60 degrees, I can handle it. (I seem to remember that on my last summer trip to Cape Cod, the ambient temp was about 98 or 99 degrees... and the water temp was 55.

Two days to GO!!! WAHOO!!!

Look for the pale northerner wearing a Superbowl Champion Patriots ball cap and a big grin! (well, a bathing suit,too...) (the radio just announced a winter storm warning for tomorrow night - I hope Logan Airport doesn't get closed again!)

"...have been checking the water temp in CC."
Thanks[/QUOTE]

Our trip is approaching quickly and I have a question Faireygod mother, how do you check the water temp at CC? I'm assuming you know of a website...would you mind posting it? Thank you! :cool1:

I check it at accuweather.com, look under the matine tab. CC is located just north of Nassau. I use the water temp at nassau as a guide.

Hope this helps

I too am bringing my snorkel gear. I figure after I get acclamated it might be nice. 1 day and a wake up. I am beyond excited. I just want this surprise over.
