Need HELP from my Disboard DVC friends!!!!

OP, our older dd lived on antibiotics!!! She had repeat ear infections---to the point where she got ear tubes implanted 3 separate times.

Having said that the antibiotics always took effect within 2 days. She go from fever, oozing green gook, etc, to totally better. Your odds are excellent that both kids will be 100 percent by next weekend.

If we were on Facebook, I would "Like" this!!!

Yeah the AB's should clear it up within a few days but you must follow the directions of the Meds very closely and do not end the treatment early even if they are prefectly fine. Try not to be late or early when you give the meds because timing is everything. I personally think you have plenty of time to treat and be healed before your trip so enjoy and have fun. Make sure the kids know how to relieve the ear pressure and practice before your flight (after they get better of course). You know, hold your nose with your fingers and then try to blow air out your nose (with it closed) with your mouth closed. When it's time to fly make sure you do this several times on the way up and a couple of times on the way down.

I've been afraid to use this method, especially with sensitive ears, as it can do damage. I think the best thing is to give them gum if they're old enough, or a bottle of water if they're not, so they swallow a lot during takeoff and landing.

What are earplanes?

Earplanes are like little earplugs that you put in their ears when you fly. You can get them at a pharmacy, with the ear care stuff. I recommend them.

We went once and my oldest dd had an ear infection, she was around in the middle of her antibiotics. We used the earplanes with her while flying and she did great.

Hoping your kids are feeling better and you are able to go!!:)

I did not know that and since I'm not a doctor (although I did stay at whatever the hotel is that's suppose to make you smarter):) it's probably a good idea to disregard my suggestion. I really do hope everything works out for you and your family.

I would keep the trip as scheduled. You can cancel up to the day before arrival and still have points go into the holding account if you cancel. You'll obviously know by then if they are well enough to travel. I agree with the others that with antibiotics they will most likely be fine by then. I'm sending pixie dust your way!!!!:wizard::wizard:

Veteran of many, many ear infections & multiple surgeries (tubes twice, adenoids removed). I agree with all the PP, ear infections should clear up with antibiotics as long as you have the right one. DD had to cycle through several on more than one occasion. If you don't see improvement in 48 hours, I'd recheck.

I think you'll be fine in a week - but with healing ears, I'd keep them out of the pool at Disney (shouldn't be too hard in January).

OK, just went to CVS and got the earplanes. Still haven't made a decision yet, will see what the doc says tomorrow. Now I am obsessively checking the extended forecast for next week. Nice weather down there would be a plus!
Our youngest is doing much, much better. Our oldest is still complaining about the ear.
Thanks again for all the comments and suggestions.

I have been prone to ear infections most of my life. My ENT doc taught me that trick for the air pressure in my ears many years ago. If I feel my ears stuffing up, I do that trick once each hour to keep them clear. I also do it on every flight I am on- works great!

We went to the doctor's today and he gave us the thumbs up to travel. My youngest ear is much, much better, almost back to normal. My oldest still has a way to go, but is better than it was last Friday. By Sunday he should be even better.
I have the earplanes, cold medicine, and chewing gum for the flight, so we should be in good shape.
Now if the weather up here in Boston can just cooperate so we can get off OK!
Thanks again for all the suggestions!

Our son used to do this on his own, and we worried he would damage his ears. Asked the ped and he said, nope, it's fine, it probably clears the fluid and makes him feel better! Who knew?

OP, I hope your kids are doing better. Mine had lots of ear infections and the antibiotics did the trick in just two or three days. Just be sure, as PPs have mentioned, to complete the entire regimen of medicine or you could be looking at another infection pretty quickly. Hope you have a great trip!:thumbsup2
