This is my first time at Disney and on the day of our arrival, we have a dinner reservation at Chef Mickey in the Contemporary. We are staying at the All Star Movies. What is the best way to get to our meal from our hotel. We have plenty of time......we arrive in Orlando at 10am and our reservation is at 7:40 pm, so it is not an issue of being rushed. I just have no clue how to navigate the transportation system and would like to be prepared.

Thanks
Heather!!!

If you don't have a car, take the MK bus and it drops you off within walking distance to the Contemporary Resort. It's about a 5 minute walk. Not sure when you're going but try and allow some time before your ADR. Sometimes buses can take a bit to get to bus stops.

Taxis are also a good option, especially getting back to your hotel late if the MK isn't open late.

Now this by no means is the shortest route, but could be the most Magical!

Take the MK bus from your resort to MK then walk over to the Monorail and ride it to the Contemporary (The Contemporary is the last stop in the loop). IF it is a quiet time of day ask the CM at the monorail if your family can ride up front (max 4 people), your children will then get a "Pilots License". (Make sure when you get on the monorail at MK you take the resort route not the express one). I would allow at least 90 minutes if you decide to go this way. If you arrive early at the Contemporary there is plenty to see.

Like I said, this is by no means the shortest route, but the most Magical one. Since this is your first time at WDW and you have pleanty of time to get there....why not??? My family has been to WDW many times and my DS (16) and DD (10) still have to ride the monorail. They say it just isn't Disney without it! Have a great time!! I wish you lots of Pixie Dust! :wizard:

I like that idea, but I am not sure how about closing hours. Since they haven't posted the hours for January yet, I will have to see how our reservations are timed with the closing of the parks.

I can't wait to get there!!!!

I don't think getting there would be a problem, getting back may. You could take the bus from the Contemporary to DTD and then back to your resort.

There is nothing like riding that monorail through the Contemporary for the first time. Hopefully it will work out for you. :flower:

You are so smart to be asking that question here first!!

We were in the same situation as you on our first visit-staying at Movies & having dinner at Chef Mickey's for my nephew's 7th birthday. Well not being familar with transportation, we asked at the hotel. They had us take a bus to Downtown Disney and then one to the Contemporary. :confused3 It took forever and I worried the whole way we would be late for our ps.

I wish I had known about Dis then.

Hmmm. If it were me.

Take a bus to MK and walk around. At 6:30 pm, leave the park and once out of the gate (either take the monorail) or I would opt for the 5 minute walk.

To walk, make a left passed the exit of MK and go straight! Hang towards the left (sidewalks), so you don't get squashed by a bus!

Have a great time!!!! :-)

We just arrived back from WDW on Mon. What we did was take a bus to EPCOT and then the monarail to the Cont. You could also do the same thing by taking a bus to MK and taking the monarail to the Cont. We chose to go to EPCOT because that station tends to be less crowded then the MK one.
Also for your return trip you could do the same thing buy taking the monarail to EPCOT and then a bus to your resort. EPCOT normally closes @9pm and then has Illuminations so you should be fine in getting through there. But you could always take a DTD bus from the Cont. and the hitch a bus there. It would be less of a walk to get to your stop from DTD! Have a great trip.

I thought the Contemporary was the 1st stop once you leave MK. Am I totally losing my mind. If I'm right, it won't take long to get there from MK. But, maybe I'm completely wrong. It wouldn't be the first time. :rotfl2: I have pictures though of the kids sitting up front and we are headed toward the CR for the first stop.

It is very fun to sit up front, but just know it isn't always easy to do. You might have to wait a while, there could be a couple other families waiting in front of you. Just watch your time. :hourglass

Unless the monorail has changed directions in the past few months, the above information about the monorail is inaccurate.

When you get on the resort monorail at MK, the Contemporary is absolutely THE FIRST stop. That monorail runs CLOCKWISE around Seven Seas Lagoon. If you get on at MK, the stops are Contemporary, TTC, Polynesian, Grand Floridian, then back to MK and so on.

A bus from your resort to MK followed by the monorail from MK to Contemporary IS the shortest route. But don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with the short walk from the MK bus stop to Contemporary.

And just in case you're wondering, you don't have to actually enter the Magic Kingdom to go from your bus to the monorail.

ENJOY!

I stand absolutely 100% corrected! My most humblest apologies.

ok, let me make sure I am understanding this right.............

I should definately take the bus from the hotel to Magic Kingdom. From there, I can either take the 5 minute walk or I can ride the monorail and get to the Contemporary for Chef Mickey.
