Need Help from Disers

I am trying to decided on a small gift for CMs in lieu of tipping (which is not allowed). I don't mean mousekeeping and servers, I mean that guy walking by who offered to take a picture of my family with ME in it for once, or lady at the front desk who printed out the Disney pressed penny list for me and had it sent to my room-even though I never asked her to(because I didn't know they even had such a thing).

You know the people I am talking about -the tons of CMs at Disney parks, hotel, Buses, etc, who make the Disney experience what it is.

I was thinking about a small pin, or maybe a candy of some sort, but I didn't want anything too hokey

So I am asking you guys to help-got any ideas?

I didn't even thing about this but i am glad you asked! Maybe something that is from your areastate? For example, I am from the Philadelphia area so maybe I could bring some tasty kakes or peanut chews!

the pin idea is nice...because they all have their lanyards...even somethin small from where you are...doesn't have to be the expensive Disney pins

I KNOW that's what makes them, so WONDERFUL!!! . Every time we are down there at least a 2 dozen CMs have gone that extra step to make our vacation that much more magical. LOL-my DH wants to move to FL because he thinks ALL Floridians are that nice -he's so cute when he's being naive!

What a great idea! Where are you from? I'm from Texas so may bring some Bluebonnet seed packets with a little note attached. Since Texas is known for them....we usually go to Marco Island for our summer trip but traded this year. We've sent blue bonnet seeds to people we've meet there and they said they've grown well.....What do you think?

What do you leave for the maids? This is new to me. I usually bring a little gift and leave it the last day but I've heard stories of people tipping everyday and leaving a large amount of money. That isn't in the budget this year so am worried about this.

I'm from NY (the city originally, now upstate) so I was trying to incorporated apples some how? I usually leave between $3-$5 per day (because it's not always the same person each day). There's 3 of us and we make a point of not leaving any mess other than an unmade bed and needed new towels. I HAVE noticed that the regularly you tip the more/better towels animals you get-which my daughter LOVES!Or maybe it's my imagination...

I was under the impression that the housekeeping service is not tipped. We always try to tip the Bellhop (1-2 dollars a bag). I have a friend in the cast, and he told me that the only tipped jobs on property are the table servers. Does anyone have a list of Jobs that are tipped?

This year after getting this idea from another Dis'er I thought I'd do a little something for really outstanding CM's.
I was going to do little boxes of Smarties, which are distinctly a Canadian treat (which are called Rockets in the US - and our Rockets are your Smarties - confused yet? lol)
with a little note. But being that Florida is so hot in September I figured the chocolate would melt.
SO, instead of that I made a little card with a Canadian hockey jersey stamped on the front in red glitter that says "Thanks" and on the back it says "For adding a little extra magic to our vacation. The XXX Family, London Ontario Canada" and then I bought some Canadian Flag pins and tacked one onto each one. I figured with all of them wearing lanyards, it would be a little more practical reminder.
I've made 10 of them, so my kids can each give out one a day. In addition to it being a nice gesture, it's a great way for my kids to meet new people.
As for the mousekeeping, I tip one dollar per person per day, so $4 a day. Honestly, they don't make enough money to be touching some of the nastiest stuff people leave behind. I don't mind tipping them one little bit. I do however, get irritated at having to tip 20% to someone just for bringing me a beverage and a plate of food. It just seems like a LOT of money. I don't mind tipping at all, but 20%?

It's not required, it's just that I am a bartender(and survive on tips) and although I am far from wealthy-I try to leave a little something for them.

That is a nice idea - I had heard of folks giving hard candies to the staff at the kids clubs on the Disney cruise.

I don't know about pins - they can be a bit expensive, and I think some cast members are given them?

I agree about something from where you are from, or your particular culture. I could see us, for example, giving Korean candies (not the kinds that could melt) as DH is Korean. My kids have bought similar ones in Japan at Epcot, and we can get them much cheaper at our local Korean grocery store.

It is so special when you see cast members going the extra mile for you!

I like your idea-very creative. I'm from NY so i was thinking maybe an apple lapel pin(you know "Big Apple") -we could also go with my DH background-he's from Ireland?

What a neat idea, I think I will load up with several bottles of Tabasco... they sell little tiny ones here that cost next to nothing. Ill bring them a little taste of Louisiana with us when we go in THREE WEEKS woo hoo!

That's a super cute idea too! The thing I read that got me started in the idea was a family who brought mini bottles from their home state of NH (I think) or Vermont. I'm from NY so I am a bit lost.
